Last year was my first deer hunt with a rifle, 357 Maxi to meet Indiana's odd ball deer regs.  I decided while hunting last year I needed to keep a look out for a used 357 mag Handi to make a Maxi so I would have a backup rifle.  Several months ago there was a multi barrel on Gunbroker, 243 bull, 22 Hornet, and a 357 Maxi. The rifle was only a few years old and all the barrels factory fitted, the 357 Maxi barrel was unfired and the others less than 50 rounds.  I made the minimum bid.  I figured it was unlikely I would win and if I did I would just sell the Hornet and 243 barrels. I'm pretty much sold on the single barrel set up and I already have a Handi Hornet.  The 243 isn't much use in IN other than killing paper.

After receiving the rifle I cleaned it all up and put the Hornet and 243 barrels in gun stocks and put them under my reloading bench.  I was busy at the time and thought I sell them in a week or two.  Since then I've moved them every couple weeks to get something from under the bench.  Each time I'm thinking I need to sell these barrels.  Last night I moved them again, I put them up on top of the bench so I would do something with them today.  Tonight I was mowing the lawn and it dawns on me that this Maxi is my backup, I can switch barrels all year long and just have to have it hitting a paper plate before deer season.  I have a couple scopes needing homes and I only need to get dies, brass and bullets for the 243.  There's no reason to sell these barrels!  ;D

I'm not sure exactly how but all of you are to blame for this.  And I thank you.   ;)

You can't blame us.  Your the one with the Handi-virus.  The only cure is to purchase a couple of receivers so you don't have to switch barrels back and forth.

The only reason to ever consider selling a barrel is if you don't use it and want another caliber.  Of course there is ALWAYS another caliber you want to have, and then after you have it for a while you find a use for the 'old' caliber.  Then you have to buy another one of the caliber you already owned and there you go again.  So never sell one unless you find yourself with more then one of a caliber and even then there's plenty of times that you will need two.  Yup, you are hooked, might just as well face it.  Even after you have all of H&R calibers, it doesn't end.  Good luck and enjoy that rifle, you did good!  44 Man

been there, done that.  My 10 frames and 15 barrels only make up less than 10% of my collection and get 90% of my time.  It is a bug you can never get rid of, but do any of us want to?

I dunno, about that.  I had 2 .233 riles one Handi and a bolt gun and both are one in 12 twist rate.  So I traded off the Handi .223 barrel for a .25-06. 

I hope the .25-06 isn't going to be too much trouble to fit...  It would suck if it didn't won't fit my frame without shimming.  In that case I'd sell it and send the frame in for a new barrel.

Later on I'm going to by a Handi .223 super light with iron sights for one of my grand kids first hunt.  It'll shoot the heavier hunting bullets much better than that varmint barrel I traded off.  It's a bit sad though, that was my first Handi...

Hope that 25-06 works for you, it is a fine caliber. Load it down or factory equiv., even cast lead or jacketed and it will do a bunch.

I'm really looking forward to it.  It's the substitute for the .25-35 that I decided was too expensive to bother with.  If it works out, I'll probably load it to .257 Roberts levels at most.

Oh Pete, I think you are one of the main culprits with the multiple Maxi's and the array of Superlights.   ;) :)  Shot both of my Maxi's today.  ;D  I have a receiver coming I bought from the classifieds that will be heading to NY for a 223 Superlight.  The next project I'm calling a 5.56 Hornet.  And if it's a bust I'll load it like a plain old .223.  Probably shoot a few of those too.

I'm not sure about buying a bridge from you. ??? I bet I could get a better deal on ice planet Hoth. :)  Same weather less regulations. :o

I bought a 25-06 several years ago at Gander Mt . They said they would give me the same price as WalMart had and they lost $5 on the sale . Anyway , if I knew then what I know now , I would have gone with a 270 as the ammo is much cheaper . The only way I could beat this was to reload for it . When 270 ammo could be had , it was $18 a box . The 25-06 ammo was going for $32 a box and was hard to find .

As much as I dislike Remington ammo , the 120 grain Core-Lokts worked fine for me .

I've been trying to find a 22 Hornet Superlight for some time, they seem to be a hen's tooth.  Since a .223 superlight is available and the .223 and Hornet have the same rate of twist, I'm going to see if I can down load the .223 to original Hornet levels.  I hope the .223 brass will be easier to work with as well.  I'd also like to see if I can get it down to 22 mag levels.  So .223 case loaded to mimic a Hornet, aka the 5.56 Hornet. 

The receiver I bought out of the classifieds came today so it will be off to NY next week.  Box of 34 grain Varmint Nightmares arrived today from Midsouth.

Try 8 grains of #2400 with a 40 grain bullet and no fillers.  It's a nice light load in the .223.  I plan to load a bunch more of these to introduce my grandkids to shooting .223 but since I don't have a .223 Handi any more, it'll have to be in my Howa 1500...

I wish I had used that one on my ex.  She had a fit about the least little gun stuff purchase.  The way I see it, a man has the right to spend some of his earnings the way he chooses so long as it doesn't hurt the family.  I've been doing well the past several years so I've been buying guns and gun stuff.  I think there's at least one more Handi in my future and maybe 2, if I get a deal on a .410 or 20 gauge shotgun barrel to use as a stub.  I'm not cutting up my 20 gauge Pardner.

As an interesting side note, the .223 barrel I traded off had both Handi and Pardner stamped on the side.  The other Handi barrel I sold and my .45-70 both only had Handi SB2 on the side...
