Remington 1100 stock replacement

Bought a repalcement camo synthetic stock for my vintage 1968 1100. Went to install it today and there was a space(gap) between the stock and receiver assembly. Inside there is a stock bearing plate. If I removed it the gap closed and the stock fit well.
 
Do I need to take some material off of the synthetic stock for it to make up right or can I leave off the bearing plate?

   I'd check with the stock maker and see what they have to say about it.

It's a Remington , and that's a good idea. I was just curios if any one else had run into that. It fits well with the plate removed but that may not be the way to go. Thanks for the reply!
