Gun activist plans July 4 march on Washington - with loaded rifles    Rick Moran
May 4, 2013

And he may gather enough people to make it a "success."
Libertarian activist and radio host Adam Kokesh is hoping to get 1,000 people to march on Washington on July 4 -- armed with loaded rifles. The plan, launched with
a Facebook group today, is to gather on the Virginia side of the Potomac, where gun laws are lax, and then march across the bridge with loaded rifles slung over their shoulders into the District, where openly carrying weapons is generally prohibited.

"This will be a non-violent event," the Facebook group warns, "unless the government chooses to make it violent." Already, over 200 people have said they'll attend the march. Here's the message:

On the morning of July 4, 2013, Independence Day, we will muster at the National Cemetery & at noon we will step off to march across the Memorial Bridge, down Independence Avenue, around the Capitol, the Supreme Court, & the White House, then peacefully return to Virginia across the Memorial Bridge. This is an act of civil disobedience, not a permitted event. We will march with rifles loaded & slung across our backs to put the government on notice that we will not be intimidated & cower in submission to tyranny. We are marching to mark the high water mark of government & to turn the tide. This will be a non-violent event, unless the government chooses to make it violent. Should we meet physical resistance, we will peacefully turn back, having shown that free people are not welcome in Washington, & returning with the resolve that the politicians, bureaucrats, & enforcers of the federal government will not be welcome in the land of the free.

Kokesh is a former Marine who was discharged in 2007 after violating the military's code against engaging in political activity while in uniform. Kokesh was highly active in the antiwar movement after serving in Iraq, participating in numerous protests and getting arrested on occasion.

He started an anti-government radio show as the Tea Party picked up steam and was eventually picked up by RT, the news channel funded by the Russian government that is often critical of U.S. policy, where he promoted both the Tea Party and Occupy Wall Street in a worldview that some sociologists describe as "fusion paranoia," a visceral anti-governmentalism that isn't limited to typical left-right divides.
With the furor over gun rights and the government's efforts at gun control, this march is likely to attract enough people to make it an extraordinarily dangerous event. Who knows what kooks will be marching? Most marchers will no doubt be level headed and sincere in their desire for a non-violent event. But it only takes one unbalanced person to cause a tragedy.

As for Second Amendment activists and tea party folk, is this really a guy who represents your political point of view? Anyone who embraces Occupy Wall Street cannot be considered rational or a lover of liberty.

Mr. Koresh and his extremist, paranoid ideology should not be given legitimacy by anyone on the right. And let's hope someone stops the fool before someone - or some people - gets killed.

The right to bear arms seems as if it SHOULD be legal. But carrying a gun in DC I'm pretty sure goes against Dc law.
This stunt seems like a no win for the gun owner.
If trouble starts (leo try to arrest or disarm them) and shots are fired it will look like the average gun owners are just looking for an excuse to start an all out war.
The liberals would love this!
Every one there would be tied to the NRA and the dems could point to the NRA as a terrorist org.!
Nope ,, I don't think this march is a good idea.

This kind of behavior is just going to play into the prejudices of the antis that gun owners are kooks and dangerous.
I've seen youtube videos of people openly carrying and being questioned by law enforcement. These people strike a defiant pose challenging the policemen's authority to stop and question them.
These people are kooks in my book.
If I see someone walking the street with a rifle slung on his back my first instinct is to avoid this nut. Is he some kook wanting to shoot people? I don't know him from Adam, and I don't care if he's exercising his 2nd amendment rights. My first reaction is to get away from him and call the police on him.
And the police have every right to question anybody walking in public carrying a gun. Just because the police aren't mind readers and they don't know if this is some kook out for mass murder or "exercising his rights".
I'm all for the right to own and bear arms, but the public, meaning you and I, have a right to safety from kooks and extremists.
This Kokeck person is doing gun owners a huge disservice with his plan to march on DC. I hope someone talks sense into him before we get a major disaster on our hands.
He's not going to be able to control everyone that joins his march. What if some mental deficient joins just for jollies and accidentally fires a gun ? Won't that invite the police and SWAT teams to fire at random due to tense nerves and itchy fingers ?
Gun owners need to be sensible, responsible citizens. Not flakes and kooks because these types will play into the hands of the people who dislike and fear guns and will take every opportunity to ban or limit our rights.

I am afraid the public in general will have the same reaction to this event if held as described as most of you here would have to a "I"m queer, I"m here and in your face" parade. Your not going to win anyone over and just alienate others that may have been neutral before.

This is playing into the ANTI gun croud hands, it will only take 1 of them off to the side to fire a round off into the air and it will make headlined for a full week.   Jim

I back guns and ownership and have attended several rally, but this one is a BAD idea. It only takes one shot (even a miss fired one) and we look like nuts and a bunch of them end up dead. Then come Monday the gun grabbers will be in their glory. Very bad Idea.

That's about right. Really... I like to irritate gun-grabbers at least as much as the next guy, but what I REALLY like to do is win converts, make friends, and find common ground with an eye towards preserving (and expanding!) my 2nd Amendment Rights. Carrying loaded weapons to a political event in DC will do none of those good things.
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

It would NOT surprise me if this was a false flag by hussein to CREATE a gun fight to further his, and his supporters agenda to disarm the law abiding. POWDERMAN.  >:( >:(

Bad idea. There will be gun crime in D.C. on that day, just like any other day in D.C. but on that day it will be blamed on the pro RKBA marchers who came in from out of town.

Stupidity isn't restricted to  Liberals. What this guy is planning doesn't represent me as a gun owner. If ever a time comes to lock and load, then we do it with a heavy heart. Not to make a point, and get innocent people hurt getting attention. The media would love to see bullets flying. The message we need to get out to the rest of the world is how responsible gun owners are. Not the opposite.

Kokesh attended the Native American Preparatory School in San Ysidro, New Mexico.[3] He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1999.[4] In 2004, he served in Fallujah.[5] He was a liaison between the U.S. military and Iraqi civilians as a member of the 3rd Civil Affairs Group.[1] He also worked a security checkpoint while in Iraq.[6] He brought home a pistol from Iraq in 2004[4] in violation of military rules, which prevented his return for a second Iraq tour.[6] Kokesh "had risen to the rank of sergeant after three-and-a-half years in the Reserves" and "was demoted to corporal and soon thereafter discharged honorably with a re-enlistment code that basically said, 'you can't re-enlist.

In April 2007 Kokesh and a number of other activists were arrested for protesting the Iraq war in the Senate Hart Office Building. Kokesh had performed a ceremony for lost service members using an American flag.[17][18][19]
In June 2007 Kokesh, along with IVAW members Liam Madden and Nate Lewis, were arrested for crossing onto the property of Fort Benning during an anti-war protest. A spokesperson for the IVAW said the three had accidentally stepped onto the base while talking to a guard. The trespass charges were dismissed.[20]

This guy was an Iraq veteran, was told he couldn't return then started protesting the war! He is a clown and those that follow him to DC will be clowns. 1000 man march?  he can prolly find 100 clowns to follow him!

Mark my words, it won't happen.  Maybe that one fellow is stupid enough to do it, but he'll never get close to a thousand followers with the same amount of stupidity.

i am not going to comment on the origonal post ..  it has always been  my thought to let let others make thier own choices .. good or bad .

however  the above response by boarhuntr    scares  me .
evidently the media and goverments goal of social conditioning   is moving along just how they want it to . ..

everyone should reread his response very very carefully .... do you see and understand what is fundementaly wrong with it ?

i am going to point out what to me is the scariest part ...."and the police have every right to question anybody walking in public carrying a gun "

if you do not understand why people who think like boarhuntr in his post scare me you realy should read your history books some more ..  along with our constitution .

bad idea...IMO.  :(

they, if they really feel the need, should consider the carrying of effigies of firearms...

that way the police would have no grounds to arrest/detain.

it seems like it will appear as an armed rebellion...surely fodder for the anti's
don't squat while wearing your spurs...will rogers
