VA Medical?
« on: May 06, 2013, 06:48:34 AM »
I've noticed a decidedly lack of care where the VA medical services are concerned. The doctors act like they don't even want to be there and that I am inconveniece to them by making an apointment. They have been ignoring other doctors requests for tests and even ignoring the results of tests they run themselves. For instance I have severe problems with my neck. The vertabrae have calcified, fuzed, and are pinching the nerves. a private Neuro Surgeon sent them the results of his exam and an MRI saying I am losing the use of my left arm. The VA has ignored it completely. I went in in severe pain and the doctor acted po'd that I came in. He sat clear across the room from me, asked  where it hurt, and when I told him he said, "Well I can't see anything wrong there's nothing I can do for you!" Never even got out of his chair!

I have severe lung problems, COPD and Emphesema, and asked to see a Pulmonary doc. The VA doctor sent me down the hall for a breathing test and xrays. The guy giving the breathing test stopped it less than a minute into it saying it was obvious I had problems and he saw no need of putting me through it. I had pleurisy at the time. Then I went next door and got the xrays done. Next I walked back down the hall straight into the doctor's office. Imediately he tells me my breathing test went fine and the xrays showed no sign of scarring in my lungs or any problem at all and therefore I didn't need to see a lung doctor! This even though I had pleurisy and have had doctors say my lungs are so badly scarred that the xrays look like road maps of the bad lands of Baha California and I also have a mass in my left lung!

I needed to see a VA Cardiologist so the VA would cover Plavix. This lady cardiologist takes two steps into the room and tells me I don't have a heart problem and to stop taking all my heart meds imediately cold turkey. Ignoring that I have critical coronary artery disease, left ventrical hypertrophy, a tripple bypass, stents, and at the time severe mitrol valve prolapse. A private cardiologist told me I'd have been dead in a week had I listened to her and stopped my heart meds! He even called them and asked if they were trying to kill me! Then this lady, using the term loosly, cardiologist admits she's never ever even looked at my medical records!

That is just some of the examples. Heck, it's gotten to where I have to practicly beg to even get an apointment. Even when a private doctor, such as in an ER, says I need to be seen. What gives? Is this just local or are all VA Clinics getting like this? Sorry for ranting guys but this realy has me po'd and wondering what the heck gives and if others are being treated this way?

My buddy has Parkinsons related to agent orange exposure from Viet Nam. He's actually getting pretty good care in the Minneapolis area.

I'm waiting on a call back from the VA. A private doctor wanted blood tests. The VA wanted the doctors report faxed to them. That was done last Tuesday. Still no apointment for the blood tests. I was told Tuesday they got the fax and my VA doctor was reviewing it. I called first thing this morning and also told them I needed to be seen as I have a kidney infection.  The nurse said she'd check on it and call me back. That was 4 hours ago and still no call! Yep, I think it is time to call a VA Advocate and raise some h@ll! I'm proud I served. I even volunteered when others were running from the draft. But this kind of treatment, or I should say lack of treatment, makes me sick to my stomach!

Up until six months ago I got great care, then it's like the switch was turned and they just don't do anything.  I have had appointments where the VA only paid a portion of the Doctor's charges.  I had an appointment in November and the clinic handed me a paper that said if the Insurer failed to pay the entire bill I would be responsiable for the balance.  I refused to sign it and they refused to see me.  The folks at the VA has refused to give me an appointment since.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

The King doesn't like the military or veterans.  Stuff flows downhill - I'd guess morale in the VA isn't very high right now.

SPIRITHAWK. I talked to a friend of mine about his va experiences and they pretty well mirror yours, he's ex Navy and gotten very poor treatment.
The VA killed my best friend Tank. He was getting a routine port change, he was diabetic and dialized 3X a week. They told him he's be in and out in 2 hours to go home. He even ha supper planned, he never got it.
They gave him a blood thinner that was on his DO NOT GIVE list that the dr never chkd. He never woke up. That was 3 years ago last month. POWDERMAN.  >:( >:(

Powderman,

Congratulations. You just made me mad.

No excuse for that. These days a patient's pharmacy warnings should be on his admittance wristband. That has been main stream for well over ten years.

Beware of doctors giving medicines. Very high error rate. Check everything through a pharmacist or anaesthesiologist. Too many pill pushers out there.

The Birmingham Alabama VA hospital works in conjunction with UAB teaching hospital. On the surface you would think this to be a good thing. It is not!
What you have is VA patents that lab rats for the resident trainees at UAB! You never or almost never see the same doctor twice, so they have no idea what your problems are. They look at the computer to see and apparently at least   half of them can't comprehend what they are reading!
They have no idea about what meds you are on or why, they never explain the possible side effects or what the meds are suppose to do! The quality of care is poor at best. they sent me a questionnaire that asked if I could get care any where else if I would use the VA. I think you know my answer!

This is the violation and defilement of one of the most sacred obligations of our country: To care for the people that fought to defend it. Not a surprise though. The WW2 veterans were screwed during the 1980s when they hit their 60s and became politically irrelevant. The message then was "sorry. we just don't have the money to do what we told you we would do." It happened with the ww1 vets. Now it's happening to the Viet Nam vets. I guess the korean vets must have been screwed too, but there wasn't as much fanfare about it and a lot of them got mixed in with the ww2 vets that got screwed.

The VA missed by brother's prostrate cancer, even after he was passing blood, and he died.

I know there are horror stories in hospitals other than the VA, but not as much.  I think it's because the VA staff have no interest in anything but getting paid, like most gov't workers.

It seems obvious that since you are no longer of any use to your Govt. your earliest demise is hoped for.  It may be part of Obamacare(not). Sad and worse!! :(

BBF:

You got that right. And by extension, Obamacare does the same by killing off old people in VA fashion through neglect. If they aren't paying taxes and the government wants its cut of the estate taxes, then why not kill off the old people. After all, every old person that gets care is taking health care from somebody who needs it, like an illegal alien.

They're off to a great start by telling docs that they need to go through 12 years of college and internship, then not get paid reliably or well, and work in what amounts to sweat shops where nobody gives a crap about anything.

I wonder what the Party of Preference is for those "expendable" types.  Dems or Repubs. I have an opinion but no stats.
