HOAX: Liberal College Blogger Faked Rape Threat From Conservative Student
Liberal blogger Meg Lanker-Simons, a student at the University of Wyoming, initially gained attention after she alleged that a conservative student threatened to sexually assault her ... but now, police say
she was the one who made the offensive post. The hoax post read, in part, "I want to hate-f*** Meg Lanker Simons ... that chick runs her liberal mouth all the time, [and] doesn't care who knows it ... One night with me, and she's going to [unknown] a good Republican d***." Lanker-Simons replied to the post, saying that she wanted the "disgusting" words to remain online.
"It's misogynistic ... remember, there was a creeper who took the time to think this up...," she said.
Well, someone did think it up, police say, but that person was Lanker-Simmons. Now, she's facing charges.
Campusreform.org's Katherine Timpf reports on stories like this on a regular basis, but she told
Megyn Kelly on
America Live that this one case was particularly sordid.
"It's a really evil thing to do ... she was trying to frame conservatives," Timpf said. "It's really, really twisted."
The blogger had also claimed that she received death threats on various occasions, including after she petitioned and succeeded in getting Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground group to make an appearance on campus. Timpf says this past behavior could suggest the rape threat hoax may not be the first time she's manufactured such a threat by a conservative.
"This wasn't just some wacko," Timpf said of Lanker-Simons, whose blog was award-winning. "This just calls into question anything she ever said."
The charges she faces could get her up to a year in jail.
