When did H&R offer a 20" .308 Barrel?

I was cleaning out the safe this morning and ran onto my 308...I measured the barrel and its 20" and bull..I thought "it must have been on a youth model" So I looked up the youth model on H&R website and they show it as 22"...did it come as a 20" on the survivor?

my avatar pic is my 1960 Rambler I bought in 1972 for $175..6 banger 3-on-the-tree...drove it for 5 yrs  22mpg.. was "hot-rodding" (LOL) one night...tore out 1st/reverse gear. Drove it that way for 2 yrs(with no reverse and only 2nd and high)  Had to really plan ahead when parking.
sold it for $125

Never that I know of, only 22", if it's a factory barrel, it's a first, it's likely been cut by someone.

Is that a factory barrel (i.e. did it come with the frame from the factory and sports the last three of four of the serial number) or one picked up from a member here?

It's always possible it's a factory offering, but like I said, it's the first reported here. They make a compact 7mm-08 with wood stock(SB2-Y08), but it still has a 22" barrel. My 44mag Superlight compact(their name) with youth stock set with 20" barrel, but it has a standard contour barrel just like my 22" 44 mag.

Is it an H&R or is it a NEF?  In my discussions with Mr. Garrison, CEO of New England Firearms, if the customer ordered it they would reconfigure their gun almost any way you wanted it.  If someone ordered a NEF, in .308 with a 20" barrel they would send it out.  That's how I got a Standard Handi Frame with a .35 Whelen barrel back when they were doing the REF run.  They barreled it up just for me.  Now I'm sure that stopped after Marlin took over.

Its an H&R.. CBA...I asked the guy I bought it from if he chopped it. He said no, but he had original sales literature on it somewhere, he's gonna send it to me.

See if you can get the SB2-XXX or 5 digit model number, they'd be on the end of the factory box,  that would help the most.

Just a thought. Where did you measure from, the end of the chamber, or where the barrel meets the receiver? For the longest time I had been lead to believe that you had to measure from the end of the chamber. In a .308, that would throw it off about 2", right?

BATF rules state that barrel length on single shots like these are measured from where rec/barrel meet and the muzzle. That's why in the pic the "ignorant end" of the tape is hooked on the muzzle.

I hava 2008 survivor witha 20" heavy "bull" conture barrel and I have seen plenty of them sold from the surrounding academy sports and basspro
in that time era.
