Now this is the first ever Savage rifle I have owned. It was far too good a deal to pass up, being a bolt action in 30-06 with a camoflage stock and detachable magazine, and she is just a sweetie. The trigger felt a bit stiff (around 4-5 lbs) but crisp, until I worked the bolt a couple of dozen times and I can really appreciate the slim pistol grip. I am pretty amazed at the strength and sturdiness of the synthetic stock because I have not been impressed at all with previous examples I have handled, so I am pretty darn happy with this new $325 purchase.
I have yet to sling it and install scope bases and a scope but that will all come together this week. Don't get me wrong, I like my Winchesters and my M70 is (or maybe was...) definately my all time favorite but this Axis is really something else. Ah well, I guess I'm back to handloading my 06s now, rather than my 8mms, 444s and 303 Brits. Good thing I have a friend with a Garand who doesn't reload.........
