NEF handi rifle ejector problem

A friend of mine has a couple of NEF handi rifles. one in .223, the other a .243 i believe. awhile back the ejector on the .223 broke. we were able to locate a replacement. after insatallation though it won't eject. appears that the ejector drops down and off the lip of the cartridge when you open the action to remove the spent casing. we compared this function to the .243 and it appears to load and position properly. the .243 however kicks the round out briskly but the .223 ejector slips down and leaves the round in the chamber. chamber is clean, round is clean, all parts are there, even had a new ejector spring sent with the ejector and installed that also. any hints or advice greatly appreciated.

How about the lift button and lift spring, were they there? See the pic in the FAQs for more info.

sorry, you'll have to guide me, i don't see an FAQ, however. on this particular gun, it's the ejector type and not the extractor set up. when we disassembled it there are like 6 parts, the ejector, ejector cam, ejector spring, cam spring, and the two pins. put it back together the same way it came apart and can't figure it out. it functions just like the .243 he has but it just doesn't catch the round and eject it. like i said, when you open the action, the ejector slips out from under the casing shoulder. on the .243 it kicks it out passed your head and over your shoulder.

The FAQs is a sticky above this topic, rimless chamberings require a lift button which you didn't list, if it's missing, it won't eject properly doing exactly what you describe, it's under the little lift spring when the barrel is upside down, there's a pic of the parts in the link in the FAQs, here's the direct link. The lift button is a little "T" shaped piece that can be made from a nail or screw, head is .205" in diameter, .026" thick, shank is .170" long and .121" diameter, tip of the shank is rounded, or you can buy one from Brownells. http://item.brownells.com/brands/hr-products/ejector-lift-button.htm

thank you to all that responded to my need. i do believe you have pointed out and solved my problem. that little pin that sets on top of the small spring was missing. must have disappeared when the ejector broke and he pulled that part of the ejector out that could be removed upon breaking. all i know is it wasn't there when we disassembled the gun and the exploded view we had doesn't show it. thank you very much for the help. i'll update upon more fixin'.
