Your question had me pulling my AR out of the safe and seeing how much over travel my trigger has.
There is so little over travel I do not think drilleing a hole and taping your trigger for an over travel screw though it would very hard to do and not get you too much. And easier way may be to buy an adjustable trigger instead.
When I say little over travel on mine the trigger breaks and it moves maybe another 1/32 of an inch.
I use my AR for three gun, for bowling pins and for high power matches and have used it for shooting ground squirrels. Somehow I can not take it big or medium game hunting and will grab one of my other three 223 rifle or a 22 Hornet bolt for hunting. But the accuracy makes it more than capable to do so.
I think finding a grip for your AR that feel the best and allows you to use the pad of your finger comfortably has more to do with your trigger pull than anything else.
