Anyone else ever have this problem?
« on: May 12, 2013, 01:21:58 PM »
Bought a brand-new Tamer in .410 the other day, took it to the range the following day with a box of #6 3" shells and 2 boxes of slugs.

First issue:  didn't want to lock up tight with a shell in the chamber.  Several tries to get it to lock without hinging open (without pressing the release bar).

Second issue:  noticed later on that it was opening on its own under recoil, again without pressing the bar.  Was locked up tight, then when fired the breech would actually come open between 1/8 and 1/4".

Anyone ever see this kind of thing before?  Suggestions?  I'm up in Canada, service and repair seems pretty tough to get done out here.

First thing I would do is take the forearm off which will allow you to remove the barrel.  Look at the latch at the bottom back of the inside of the receiver.  Push it in with your finger and see if it has any spring tension on it.  If it does check to see if it moves while you are pressing the latch button.  Next make sure there is nothing foreign below the latch that is causing a problem.  If that all seems to work the next thing to do is look at the breech end of the barrel.  There should be a shelf the latch engages when it is installed and closed.  Make sure it doesn't look damaged and that it is clean and free of oil.  If it looks good, fit the barrel according to the steps outlined in the FAQ's under barrel fitting.

I had some issues with a brand new Tamer 20 gauge... >:( ...Contacted Brian56 on this forum, sent it in for warranty work, came back shooting fine. A brand new firearm should function flawlessly. Period.

My new 20 gauge was like that.  It was pretty obvious it wasn't right but it was the last one available in my area...  Every place else was out of them but I got it at the sale price and I figured it would be worth the time to get it fixed.  I eMailed Brian and he had me send it in.  Anyway I just got word today its on the way back.

I hope it got a recoil pad, I offered to pay to have one fitted but I wasn't contacted about payment.

Why they don't put recoil pads on the shotguns is a mystery to me.  These lightweight single can really kick...

You might want to take the forearm off and see if that cures the latching problem.  I think that they are leaving the forearms just a tad long which makes for a very tight action but they won't close right.  If it latches up tight and you can't force the barrel down without the forearm, take the spacer off and sand down the back end of the forearm just a smidgeon.  Reinstall the spacer and see if that loosened the action enough that it will lock up correctly.

My .308 barrel which was fitted at the factory had the same problem, I had to be forceful when I closed it or it popped open at the shot.  After shooting 20 rounds through it it loosened up nicely.
