Loaded some new 3" Federal hulls. Used the 6 pt crimp on my Lee Load All.
The crimps don't look as good as the 8 pt crimps on some 1x Federal 2-3/4" reloads I just did.
When I reload these 3" hulls, can I switch to an 8 pt crimp, or is the plastic now "set" at 6 pt?
The difference between people who do stuff and people who don't do stuff is that the people who do stuff do stuff.

You can but I wouldn't. Most of the time when I've changed from one to the other the crimp never looked right afterward. One is as good as the other no real reason to prefer one over the other.

I tryed this years ago just to see if it could be done. 6 point to 8 point on some 12 ga. Winchester 3 inch mag hulls. Tryed for hours, finally after ruining 10 or 12 hulls gave up that idea. Even tryed using a butter knife to start each segment with a new steel 8 point crimp starter. Guess I only got a hand full that even looked right. If anybody out there knows how and can do a good job of it, I am all ears.

IInteresting. I picked up a bunch of once fired Rio hulls at the range. They were all six point crimped.
I ran them through my MEC 9000 with the 8 point crimper and they all came through just fine.
