ultra elbow
« on: May 16, 2013, 12:03:40 PM »
wifes says im a confirmed saddist. Yesterday was the first day i could get out shooting for the year. Ive got three new rifles i needed to work up loads for. a 700 rem in 300 ultramag, a 700 rem in 300 H&H and an abolt browing in 300 wsm. I shot 325 rounds yesterday combined. My elbow was real sore last night probably from banging off the bench shooting the ultra. I didnt have enough sense to put a pad down. Well i felt a bit better this morning so went out and shot another 140 rounds. Got home and started doing some reloading when i noticed the the elbow feeling worse. About an hour later it was the size of a softball. Went to the emergency room and they made an appointment for me to get it drained tommarow. Said there was liquid in there and it was also infected. Ive got one more day of load developement for the 3 guns. Any volunteers?? I asked my wife and she told me to kiss her !!! Its tough trying to remember your not 25 anymore. I know in the past that would have been just an ordinary couple days shooting. Oh well the good thing is i think its the first time ive every took 3 guns to the range and found moa loads for all of them in a single day.

LLoyd!!!!!  325 rounds in one sitting!!!!  Sometimes we just never learn......  I did almost the same thing shooting my 300win but with 40 rounds.  I was "on" that day could hit the eye of a flea blindfolded.  I held my left hand on the rear bag and the end of the pistol grip kept hitting the back of it with every shot.  Within an hour of finishing my hand was like a softball, all bruised and red and angry.

So what did I do a week later????  Shot my lite weight 375HH just for S and G's.

Count me out.  Right shoulder is a total waste right now.  Back to ortho this Wed to learn MRI results.  Probably will need another rotator cuff surgery.  If so, it will be my 4th, second on each side.

Can't shoulder a BB gun right now.

when i had my little incident,
i couldn't raise my arm to grasp
the wrist of the stock to fire, so i had to
tape my hand in place in case i had
a shot opportunity.
a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.

ranger i chuckled at your response. Thing is for me anyway is recoil doesnt really bother me. Ive shot like this for years and if i would have had the sense to put a pad under my elbow, which by the way was sitting 10 feet from me i wouldnt have had a bit of problem. Guns at the level of 300 mags dont really hurt you unless they dont have a decent pad on them and its more of a mental thing then a physical thing. Where i need to start being carefull is with gun of the next level. Like the 340 wby 416 mags 458 ect. They can wear a guy down fast. A good stout load in a marlin guide gun will get on you more then any 300 mag out of a good bolt gun with a pad will.

the tape biz isn't a tale.
i did that because my shoulder
and arm was so stiff i couldn't
raise it to put my hand up to
work the trigger. i knew i could make
the one shot if presented, and i wasn't
gonna waste the rest of the season.
you don't get re-do's on hunting days.
