Anyone using this bullet in your 30-30?
« on: May 16, 2013, 05:29:25 PM »
If so, what's your youth load?
I recognize it is a single shot only bullet but it looks like it might make a good one to use for someone thats recoil sensitive...
I got these to play with loads for my wife's 7.62x39 Ruger M77 Compact, but want to try it in the Topper.

Yessir, I'm putting 35.0 grs H335 under that bullet. Recoil is mild but muzzle flash can be a lot depending on barrel length. Velocity is around 2250'ps. If that's too much recoil, try 17.0 grs SR4759 under it.Recoil is almost non-existent. Velocity is around 1700'ps. If you've never used SR4759, it will not go thru a powder measure. It's bulky and will bridge in a measure. I use a Lee Dipper to get close and trim it to weight. I also use the same loading under the 125 gr Sierra Flat Point HP for the rifles with mags. Shoots great too.

use that very one in the t/c jeep
gun, but not in a handi.
i'll have to get another 30/30 handi soon.
i would think it might work to your satisfaction
in your handi.

In a 308, give 47.5grs IMR4064 a try. I load for an arm load of 308s and this load shoots in all of them under an inch. It's BAD medicine on a coyote.

I've used the SR4759 in a LEE Powder Measure. If you tap on the unit it works in a fashion. I set the Measure short of what I want, then use a trickler to get the last few grains and I do weigh every load.

I actually pulled some bullets from some tula ammo i had and dumped the powder, then filled it up with trail boss and topped with some 110 cast boolits. Very quiet. Very light recoil. Quite fun. Did not do accuracy testing tho.

Maybe! I picked the Sierra at the recommendation of a friend who shoot's em in his 308 Win, he's taken more than a couple mule deer with em at around 2900fps MV, so figured they'd work good in the 30-30AI at the same velocity, reviews at Midway are great as well.  8)

Thanks,

Tim
