Whats up with the new hook craze??
« on: February 22, 2004, 06:40:06 AM »
Does anyone want to share their knowledge about the new red hook color craze thats hitting us right now??                            BigBill

If i remember correctly there was a show on the TV and the two pro guys were using red colored hooks and having great success!!!!!  Now BassProShops is sold out of red colored hooks!!!  Is this the biggest thing to hit since the flying lure?? Or the plastic worm??  Are people over reacting to this new found craze or are we putting too many eggs in one basket and gambling everything on this red hook color to have success?? Please lets have some thoughts/opinions posted here what do you think of it??  Or are we going to try to keep it under the wraps for a while.  I can't wait to see how many tornies are won with red colored hooks!!  The red hook simulates bleeding and triggers strikes. Keeping in mind that if its below the surface the hues of the water changes the red color so it maybe only for topwater use on fluke type baits.  I guess the word is mum here??

I don't know how it works. But a few people I know was using them with  live worms and they had better success than usual.

I think using these red hooks is just like any other lure modification.  At certain times, it could be the difference between catching nothing and a big bag at weigh in.  Other times using these hooks could deter bass from touching the bait.  There is never going to be a lure modification that will catch more bass all the time....bass are just not that predictable.   If they were, we would all be using the same lure all the time.
