It's gotten Quiet???
« on: May 19, 2013, 05:06:10 AM »
It's gotten Quiet here just wondering what if anything people are still doing that is trapping related? While I've been laid up I've got a pretty good batch of DP setters in the making. I just need to actually sell some instead of just always giving them away. Did sort a few traps that got dirty last fall. Should dip and dye those needing it while I kind of have the time. It just seems wrong now though as that was always a early fall ritual.

I got word from the Doc yesterday that my next and finnal surgery won't be untill after June 18th. Man I went in there thinking he was going to say lets do it next week. But the dang clot I threw in my leg after the last surgery is the hold up now. Doc refuses to do any more cutting and take the risk until he knows the clot has cleared. So now I'm wondering if I'll make FTA or not? Might just be laying in the hospital? If I do mannage to get there won't be in any shape to help or bang around. Hopefully I can make it an just visit and actaully take time to watch some demos.Of course I won't be restricted from drinking a few beers if I can get that far lol!

Tom I know how lucky I've been through this whole deal, even with the hicups that have accured. But being ADD and not a patient person getting back to slam banging my way in life has been a challenge. Everyone says it must be nice to have so much time off work. Well that might be true if I could do all the things I normally do. When you still have some of your insides sticking out through your belly. It's hard to do the same things the same way I always have. I will say I've been a little creative and might be doing some things even Doc wouldn't think I would. All he said was don't get hurt doing things. That left it pretty wide open for me. I've spent to much time on the computer though thats for sure.

Been busy finalizing the FTA demo slate and we held our own District 8 Rondy this last Sunday so some of that work is done. Now we just need some decent weather. We have red clay here for the most part and this rain and cool weather has slowed things significantly. In the heavy soil area of our county we are about 10-15% planted on corn fewer soybeans in the ground. We have maybe 25,000 plus acres of alfalfa to replace as well. I don't have any of my later season garden done and it won't happen now until after Memorial Day as we have got about 2.5 inches over the last week.

Here we can trap Raccoons and opossum year round , I use a live trap and do so for fun ( release them most of the time  as pelts are not great now ) . Its funny really I got this one old boy that is huge . Catch him a lot , I think he feels its worth the time in the cage for the cat food he gets.
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Bryce, when I left your district Sunday night, I drove the last 150 miles in the pouring rain.Got home at midnight, still raining.I had about 1500 or so pounds of trapping supplies to get unloaded .Now you have to realize--none of this stuff could get wet.I ended up covering every tote and box of traps in a rain coat--then hauling them in. Took 31/2 hours, everything remained dry--but me.Got the rental van back by 4 a.m..!/2 mile from home,at 4:23 a.m.a deer decided to step out in front of our car.My wife hit it dead center and sent the poor devil into the ditch, thing got up and made it into the woods.I did n't even want to look at our car,so told my wife to just get us home.Got under the yard light-----not a scratch on the car, couldn't believe it--lots of deer hair ,but that was it.
After being up for 25 hours ,it was beddy bye time.

Wipe your brow and say we lucked out on the deer crash, Wow! We are going north Friday for the first time since deer season. Don't know what we will find but don't need to hurry Friday as they are talking freeze warnings in the North Central area and we are right in the low temp spot of Taylor County. Pan fish will be wearing snowmobile suits until the weather warms!
Sorry I had to leave early for the teleconference. Thanks for coming and doing the demos. I got it a bit too busy for the afternoon but when you have 55 trapper ed students you want them to see as many demos as they can.
My cardiac rehab is going well. The cow valve is doing well.  I can walk 4 miles again but lifting restraints are 10 lbs. until Father's Day. Lots to get done after that.

Dang Bryce sounds like your more restricted right now than I'am. Just got to keep picking away till your back up to full speed. I'm getting there just not as quick as I want. Got to be on the doc's time frame not mine, I'm not to use to that. Hoping to see Tom at our District roudy May 8th.
As for them darn deer, My son got to be the first one ever on the fire department he belongs to to hit a deer with a fire rig. Then to make it even better it was there newest truck. It's a small mini pumper they run on medical calls and they've only had it for a few months. So anyway he got to be the first one to ding the rig and it was a deer. Deer lost though as the truck only lost a head light and a little ding in the door. Deer was kinda tore open almost in half. We stopped the next morning took a look coming back from turkey hunting as we had to go right by it. Coyotes had the darn thing pretty eaten up and one of the locals said it was gone, drug off before dark later that night.

I'd normally be working on the garden this time of year but messed up my right knee. I managed to tune a few traps and clean some reels for musky fishing. Oh I have tickets to see Gordon Lightfoot next month, then to the FTA.

Just finished planting the late seeds and set plants yesterday and today. Looks like 4-5 days of more wet weather here so I am glad I have things in the ground.
I have a small home garden which is about 35 by 40 feet and then I planted the garden over at the Christian center where we donate the produce to their pantry. That garden is 55 by 120 feet, so I have my hoeing and harvesting ahead of me if we get good weather.
As a VFW post commander our morning was occupied by our memorial Service. This year I gave a presentation highlighting aspects of the Civel War and how the draft was created, evolved used and abused. We had 7 residents from our local one zip code killed in the Civil War, 4 in WW 11, 2 in Viet Nam, 1 in WW 1 and one in Iraq.
