Belamy Brothers
« on: May 20, 2013, 04:31:13 AM »
Went to a concert last night to see the Belamy Brothers.  Included Brewer and Shipley.  Have to say it was the best concert we have had visit Fairbanks in quite a while.  We are sort of out of the way up here.  They get some good ones in Anchorage, but most of the good ones skip Fairbanks.

Last year we had two groups that had been pretty good back in the 70s.  But there was only one original member left in each group, and in both cases they had lost their voice.  The replacements were not good at all.  Nothing like the originals.

But both groups last night were good, and they did an outstanding show.  Both groups have been around since the late 60s, but they still got what it takes to sing.  No lip syncing on their part, I know I was sitting in the front row.  Even Sky liked it.  He usually does not like the same music his Mom and I like.

Old Hippie was the song they started out with.  Skyler is always calling me an "Old Hippie", and they started laughing and pointing at me.

I thought there as something related to magnetic declination that prevented music from working up there.  ;)

Boy you guys are going way back, my Dad listened to the Belamy Brothers. They had thier roots in gospel music is what my mom used to tell me. I heard them team up with Emmylou Harris once
in Charlotte NC with some other older country artist and they did put on a good concert.

My son is 35 now and still recalls listening to my Bellamy Brothers cassettes in the camper while on caribou hunts around Lake Louise back in the early 1980's.

Naw, just have to wait til spring so the notes don't freeze in the air. Saw Chicago play in the Cowbarn @ Miss State in the early 70s. So hot their guitars wouldn't stay tuned for an entire song. ear

I saw the Belamys on more than one occasion at John Ascuaga's Nugget in Sparks.  The first time was the best, because of the sound volume.  When we first started going to shows in Reno, Sparks, Las Vegas and Laughlin, the sound was reasonable, but then all of the shows turned up the volume so loud that you had to wear ear plugs.  We quit going.  I don't know why the entertainers allow the sound people to ruin their shows.  The last show we went to, a lot of people were complaining about the sound.  I personally asked for it to be turned down and the sound "engineer" said he couldn't.

Anyway, I really do like the Belamy's music.  "You'll never be sorry" is about as good as it gets.

I was wondering about the sound track myself. For a while I blamed my ears 'cause I couldn't understand what was being said or sung over the racket from the music even in the TV these days. IMO, when folks are talking or singing I don't need any music getting in the way.

I know they did at least three versions of old Hippie, and this one below #3 is a doozie ;)  If they do a 4 version, I may have to listen long distance ;)
