Detailed review of the famous McDonalds french fry
« on: May 20, 2013, 07:18:51 AM »
I had some of these on a recent road trip. Garbage. I cannot imagine that they were once considered excellent by even the likes of Julia Child. I got fresh ones. They were just no good.

Funny you mention Julia Child and French fries.
Because I seen a show of hers along time ago where she was making french fries, and she spoke of Mc Donald's fries.
I remember her saying she was using animal fat to make hers like Mc Donalds use to use when they made GOOD french fries.
BTW- I was saving bacon grease till I had enough to fry some French fries in it.
The wife and all the kids said they were the best they EVER had !
Don't know how healthy they are ,, but they sure are good,,,,,just like Mc donald's were when I was a kid.

Interesting. My recollection of Julia Child commenting on Mcfries is old, dating from the 60s or 70s. She did praise them then. Interesting that she changed her mind.

they used to use beef grease.
that's what makes the best fried taters.
the hare krishnas filed suit against them here
for "making" the smell of cooked animals waft
past their center. probably why they use the
junky vegetable oil now.

I still like a fresh box of their fries. The rest of their crap leaves a lot to be desired. I spent 3 years slinging their greasy fare when I was in high school, so I still have trouble stomaching some of their junk. After high school I went to work doing sanitation in a Stouffers plant and as a result I am unable to eat their stuff without gagging also, even though they were sticklers about cleanliness and quality.
Hi NSA! Can you see how many fingers I am holding up?

Must be a regional thing. The ones in this neck of the woods are excellent.

I'm not much of a fan of McDonald's food but they make a small green chile (it's not chili) cheeseburger in this area that is darn good and not big enough to be a threat to your waistline that I indulge in once in awhile. I'll get a small order of fries to go with it. They also have fried apple and cherry pies that aren't bad but I indulge in one of those even less often than the cheeseburger.

My Grandma used lard for making her fried potatoes, she fried everything in lard.  Man her cooking was good.  Then my Mom started talking to her about using Crisco instead of lard.  That was even worse.  I have five gallons of bacon grease ready in the freezer, for use this summer.

Loved McDonalds fries back years ago.  Now they are only good while hot.  Once they cool, throw them away.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
