Buffalo Classic sights
« on: May 21, 2013, 07:04:50 PM »
 Hi all,

I just had my LGS store order a Buffalo Classic for me. I told them I had not even seen or handled one so they were nice enough to order it and put my name on it. They told me I wasn’t obligated to buy it if I didn’t want, as they were confident they could sell it.

So, I have a question. Are the factory sights that bad? Seems like every time I look for information, I find people are changing them out. Just curious as to what kind of range I could expect to get out of the factory sights? To be perfectly honest, due to less than perfect eye sight, I really wouldn’t probably be shooting over 100 yards with open sights and don't plan on any C.A.S.

I have a Handi rifle in 45-70 and because of the open sights, I put a scope on it. Actually doesn't look that bad.

I just don’t want to put a scope the Buffalo Classic for esthetic reasons and surely don’t want to spend as much as the gun for a period correct replica scope.

Like I say if I can get 100 yards out of the stock sights I will probably be happy.

Thanks in advance for any input.

The factory BC sights will work fine if (big if) they put the correct height front sight in it, many, many have come with too high a front sight to zero at 100yds, that's prolly the biggest reason for changing the front sight, that and globe sights aren't great for hunting in low light conditions, great for target work tho. The Williams WGRS rear sight is a bit tedious to adjust, but once adjusted works fine, I have them on all my muzzleloaders incl my Huntsman and one of my 45-70 Handis, although I have changed the aperture to the twilight which has a bigger hole in it, see Peep and Firesights in the FAQs sticky, it can be used as a ghost ring without the aperture or you can buy a ghost ring for it for $5. There are some other great peep sights tho, Skinner(site sponsor) and NDS for a couple that many here love.

Thank you sir that answers my question. Well pretty much answers it. I guess it will depend on the front sight. I have heard of this problem in the past but can't for the life of me see how a firearms manufacture knowing this has been a problem still lets guns out the door with the wrong sight. You would think they have some measure of quality control.

Thanks again
