Fowlers for hunting
« on: May 22, 2013, 03:08:19 AM »
I'm interested in hunting with a fowler. I've looked at TVM and Mike Brooks websites. Any opinions on these or other builders?  ;)

Looks like $1500- $2000 could buy one is that realistic.

I own both a TVM 20 gauge Fowler by Matt Avance and a 16 gauge Fowler made for me by Mike Brooks.
The Mike Brooks gun is a New England style fowler after #9 in Grinslade's.
It points like a wand and weighs only a tad over six pounds.

The TVM gun was my first fowler. It is a 20 gauge flinter.  It is a nice gun but weighs two pounds more than the Brooks gun and doesn't  have the wood or finish (it didn't cost as much either. Nor did I have to wait a year for it)

The one that goes hunting the uplands on North Mt. is the Brooks gun.

No turkey. Ruffed grouse and pheasant only.

I got a turkey a few years ago with my 24 bore fusil.
I've been practicing some using roundball with the thoughts of deer hunting.
Smoothies are a hoot!

Pete,

The more I think about it I believe that Mike Brooks fowler is what I want. I really appreciate your sharing it with us. At just over 6# it would be a joy to carry. And with some of my health issues weight is critical for me.
I mean why start with a TVM gun and then trade up later.

One question though, do you shoot a RPB ever in it?
