10-year-old girl forced to wear thrift store clothing as punishment for being a bully  Published May 22, 2013
FoxNews.com   A Utah woman forced her fiance's 10-year-old daughter to wear an unflattering wardrobe to school after a teacher said the girl was bullying another classmate over the way she dresses.
A teacher at the Viewmont Elementary school in Murray last week emailed Mark, the father of Kaylee, and his fianceé Ally, explaining that she was harassing another student for three weeks, Fox13 reports. The last names of the family were not revealed to protect their privacy.

“She would take her out on the playground and call her names, and tell her she was a slob and tell her she dressed like a sleaze,” Ally told the station.
As punishment, Ally went to a local thrift shop and purchased around $50 worth of clothing that she thought her daughter wouldn’t want to wear. Kaylee said she cried when she first saw the clothes, Fox13 reports.

Kaylee added that students talked behind her back about the clothes when she wore them to school last week. Her teacher was notified beforehand and the punishment lasted two days.
“We did it because we wanted our daughter to learn something very valuable that touched home and touched her heart,” Ally said.

boo-hoo-hoo!  :'(

i wore hand-me-down clothes
(does that phrase exist anymore?)
up until i was about 11, and didn't
have a new bicycle until i bought
my own. most of the kids in school
brought a sacklunch to school and
you saved and refolded the sack to
be used again.
what's the stigma with used clothing
as long as it's clean and not threadbare?

this lady did the right thing and is to
be commended.

I am impressed that a caretaker of the bully was proactive in shutting the behavior down.
Hi NSA! Can you see how many fingers I am holding up?

Good posts guys, I think the punishment was too short, shoulda made her wear them a month. We were tickled to death with hand me downs from our cousins, they were new to us. I hope The little brat learns her lesson. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

Heard about this incident this evening, Its nice to see parents being proactive with disipline rather than going to the school and ranting about their childs abuse by school officials.

My Mom joked that the thrift store was our specialty store.....she was right, I can remember getting a new never worn Cub Scout uniform there along with other new stuff, it was always an adventure to go there.

You have to remember, guys our age had our behind blistered if we were caught misbehaving; they don't do that today. I admit, my attire was easy, being a boy; jeans (with 4" hem rolled up because you were going to "grow") white t-shirts with added flannel shirt in winter. Hand me down sweaters and one good coat, tennis shoes. Later on, added boots and a hat and an FFA jacket; all set. ha.

  • I feel much better now knowing it will get worse.
I guess Daddy didn't handle that little filly right early on. It took his fiancee to do it. Good on her.

Ahhhhh those "tennis shoes" were Keds allstars for me! You bring back some bittersweet memories RevJim.  I didn't have an FFA jacket. But I did have a leather motorcycle jacket. No motorcycle though! till later

Church shoes became school shoes.  Never had tennis shoes.  When not in Church or school, we went barefoot.  Being the oldest I got clothes from relatives and friends.  They were new to me.  My brothers got them when I got too big for them.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Back in the late 40's my mother found some Olive Drab tennis shoes on sale in a store in Sfran. I hated those things and did everything I could to wear them out. They would not wear out. Dragging my feet while rideing my home made cart, scooter, bike roller skates (the old clamp onto the shoe type) just dragging my  feet in general. They just woundent wear out, finally grew out of them and my mom tried to find some more but than goodness they dint make them any more. Latter in years I looked for them for my boys who could go thru a pair of shoe's almost faster than you could buy them.  Even today I would like to have a pair as I am still he77 on shoes.
