Interesting fact here is that the local po-leece depended almost entirely on federal funding. What's that all about? It's supposed to come from local taxes, right?
 
It's also interesting that the hours for remaining shifts are for times when cops are least needed, right?

We had about 15-21 LEOs arrested for abusing or stealing FED overtime grant money.....all adm......go figure.....they did.

I wonder if the people who live in that town realize they were paying taxes for part-time policing. It looks like some federal program that is gone once created the illusion of police protection there.

What's she doing going out with one of these half men?  There are plenty of good men in Oregon she could have had. Instead she chose this loser and paid the price, and she expected good men to come to her rescue.

Daily Mail is what I read if I want to know what's going on in the US. It's an English paper. They generally do a good job of reporting the important things, generally better than the US papers.
 
In this case, it's not so much the crime that is interesting, it's the response and what it means to peoples' expecations of police protection.

83.000 residents and can't afford police? They have people answering phones and no one to deliver messages to? The state Attourney General and auditors need to visit that bunch. ear

Yeah, Blind Ear, it is amazing isn't it. Imagine what the rest of the city must be like! Fire department, etc! Truly a good example of creeping California-ism. It really would be interesting to see where the county spent its money.

I don't think they're talking about a city of 83 thousand people; it's more like 83,000 in the whole county.  If you dig deep enough I think the county is going through some rough economic times for a variety of reasons and probably one of them has to do with a major reduction in the logging industry.  That quite possibly is as a result of a poor national economy in general and specifically might be exacerbated by reduced logging in National Forests, which is a sizable part of that county. 


It's hard to blame the citizens of the county for turning down a tax increase if they're barely hanging on to what they've got.  Indeed it makes the case for taking on the responsibility for self defense if you're going to live away from a liberal cesspool (big city).
