Conan's utility vs. back hoe lottery
« on: May 23, 2013, 02:39:19 AM »
A couple of utility companies are laying new underground pipe today right in front of my house, and they're using a back hoe to do it.

What utilities do you think I'll lose use of due to a back hoe error today?
1) Gas
2) Electricity
3) Internet
4) Phone

Could be any or all! I'll report back at end of day.

Judging from the flags they put in the ditch, it looks like the gas company and the phone company are collaborating on something.

Sounds like a perfect storm a-brewin. Can you park and leave from the opposite side of your home? Better yet can you be somewhere else for a while? Gas lines and phone lines, ah, gas and sparks you say? The utilities are usually good at their job or Darwin might get them. But then again it is the elephant that you don't see that kills you, so they say. ear

buried utilities are supposed to be flagged
before excavation which accounts for the
flags, but unfortunately not all folks that
run equipment are even remotely qualified to
do so. a neighbor in the country figured that
out after having to replace several hydraulic
hoses and have a cylinder rebuilt after the
feller running one of his tractors "fixed" it
right up for him. these nice folks around here
just run something till it wont anymore.

good luck to you

Gas and electric are fairly serious..... I'd place my bets on phone and internet, they are notorious for not marking correctly or having lines not buried deeply enough.
