Three cheers for Texas..
« on: May 26, 2013, 02:35:28 AM »
Truly, Texas shows the way it should be done.  True progressives..unlike the Lefties who falsely proclaim themselves as "progressives".

I don't really see this as much progressive, as I do conservative. If you aren't working because your laid off, can't work, or won't work, but want free money, then there should be requirements. I disappointed that welfare recipients were left out because of liberal protest.

Im disappointed also that welfare recipients were left out. Many of us have to be subjective to random drug and alcohol testing to be able to work and earn money. Yet those who receive some of this money that others labor for have no requirements before they receive this money.  Just ain't right!

  Dee;
I wasn't thinking of progressive as the Lefties misuse the term..  But progressive as making genuine progress,  not the retrograde, phony, non-existent progress of the far left.. ..

Boy DEE so am I they will pop one of these on you at the drop of a hat. Do it before a holiday then again right after that holiday. They can even tell by yeast levels in your urine how much you had to
drink the day before. They do hair samples and bugle swabs.

i don't mind getting tested as long as
everyone else working around me is
subject to the same standard.
i've almost been run over some years
back by a feller that had a fattie for
desert with his lunch beers and ended
up running into one of the office buildings.
caved in the wall and scattered everything
inside helter skelter. luckily nobody was
seriously hurt.

i don't want any co-workers of mine impaired
and i feel like anyone on the public's dime
should be subject to a test.

No one gives smoking by professionals much thought, but it is a proven medical fact that smoking causes night blindness. Landing a plane at night could be a problem for a heavy smoker.

Having morning coffee with the regular gang of  good old boys on Friday morning.
Earl is reading the paper..       Dave says to Earl,  "Hey Earl, why are you reading the obits?"
Earl replies.." I'm looking to see who quit smoking".. ;) ;D

They should do a search of their cars to make sure they don't have any illegal drugs ,or guns.
And if they are not allowed to have a gun at their workplace then they shouldn't be allowed to have one while colleting unemployment.
These measures should also extend over to everyone that collects SS  or disability.
And once a person is past 60 they should be barred from having any kind of weapon because they might have some age related health issues that would make them dangerous with a weapon.
Yep, there is no better thing than letting government have 100% control over us.
And if it would save only ONE life it is  worth it.

I would be too, except for the fact that they'd be on their way to CA where we already have 30% of all US public assistance freeloaders.  >:(

even though I have surgical notes and the scars to show for it I was subject to federal psychological and physical examinations to prove I qualified for Medicare disability payments.

Why are others not subject to some kind of qualifying other than just not having a job? I had a great job and so very much wish I was still doing it.

a friend that passed away a while back
barely got any disability.
he'd worked full time since the age of 16,
paying in all those years, and by the time
he got really bad off he couldn't even move
around without one of those electric scooters,
nor walk the 10 steps to the bathroom.
i have some section eight next door neighbors
that have never been to work since they've
lived there. today was the first time i've ever
seen any of them mow. well, actually the boyfriend
did. they usually hire a lawn service. i guess
you get those luxuries when you don't have
to pay your own way.

I work for USDA, what used to be Soil Conservation Service.  If you want to participate in our programs and receive funds from our agency, you have to give up something...be it use of certain lands, what you can or must do on a piece of land, development rights, etc.
If this is required of working farmers and landowners, then why shouldn't ANYBODY that receives benefits from social programs be under similar constraints?   You get something, you gotta give up something, that being freedoms or personal rights...maybe even voting rights.  That would ensure that those getting a "free ride" can't vote in politicians who want to promise them more and bigger "free rides".  I'm not talking about situations like social security or disability where a person has paid into it.  I'm talking about folks who are getting a free ride and has never done anything but be a drain on society.

Had not heard that one.  Luckily, it hasn't been proven by me.  I see better at night than just about anyone I know.

The studies were done some 20 plus years ago. Nicotine constricts the blood vessels in the eyes, causing the pupils to not dialate properly.

seems everyone has to qualify except those who truly should show need.  Just not having a job does not qualify you for public assistance in my mind.  We have so many industries that are needing workers but no one applies.  Everybody seems to think if they don't get paid the big bucks then they don't need the job. I took jobs raking leaves and picking up trash for minimum wage and was very happy to get it.

A Detroit tv station was doing a piece on teenagers out of work. One punk, hat on backwards, dirty shirt,  shouts "somebody gots to give me a job".  What employer would want to hire someone who cannot even speak properly let alone cannot dress properly for an interview?  My first question to him would be " what can you do?".  I always had to have a skill that an employer was looking for. Now jobs are to be 'given' to someone simply because they are unemployed.

Anyone read "Atlas Shrugged"?

We knew a lady with a couple of kids and she was hardly making it....well my wife would drop 500.00 a month or so on groceries for the kids.  We also made sure the car ran and had good tires........that is all ok with me. However, it use to chap my azz when she dropped 10.00 bucks a day on cigs.
