Bardstown officer shot, killed; Police believe ambush       by Brittany Gonzalez  WHAS11.com Posted on May 25, 2013 at 11:37 AM
Updated yesterday at 11:56 PM       Related:
NELSON COUNTY, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Heartbreak and loss can be felt throughout Nelson County after an officer is killed while on his way home after work early Saturday morning.

According to officials, 33 year-old Jason Ellis stopped his cruiser to remove brush from the road on exit 34 on the Bluegrass Parkway when he was shot multiple times. Officials describe the attack as an ambush.

Nelson County Coroner said the shooter was positioned on a hill and used a shotgun in the slaying. A family returning home discovered Ellis’ body riddled with bullets outside his cruiser.

Ellis, a K-9 officer, worked for the Bardstown Police Department for seven years. Chief Rick McCubbin was visually shaken during a news conference Saturday morning.

“I can assure you we won't give up on this person until we either have them in custody or in the front sight of one of our weapons, and I personally hope the latter is the choice,” he said.

Sandi Pulliam has known Ellis for 10 years and tearfully described him as a great father and fair man. “I can’t believe someone. There is no justice in the world for someone to shoot him...Why would they shoot Jason? He was a good man.”

Police say this is an ongoing investigation and no suspects have been named.

Ellis is survived by his wife and two children.

“It’s very heartbreaking. This is a young man with child and now he’s gone. Them kids are going to miss him,” Bloomfield resident Mike Moore said.

Those who knew Ellis said he was very active in the community and loved baseball. He played for Cumberland College in Kentucky and also played for the minor league baseball team the Billings Mustangs. Nelson County residents are now vowing to catch the person who killed one of their own.

“You have taken away a very great man, and I hope they catch you,” Pulliam said.

Funeral arrangements are still pending.

Mr. Charles Glenn “Charlie” Nelson, age 73, of Payneville, KY passed away Thursday, October 14, 2021 at his residence. RIP Charlie, we'll will all miss you. GB

Going to see more of this with open borders. This is common place south of the border.
One thing we've seen here is they set off burgler alarms and wait for the blue light.

If this is as reported, and that's all there is to it, then this is very grim.
It's possible that there's more to the story, but that is unknown.
so as reported, this is very grim
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

Terrible crime, I hope they soon catch the ugly criminal..  It rather looks like that brush didn't just "happen" to be in the road at a spot where the shooter would be waiting..in ambush..

With a shotgun used I would look for some one he may have had problem with in his last couple shifts. Shotgun sounds like some one pissed off, went home and grabbed what they had close. Hope they catch the fool and he gets what he deserves.

I hope the punk, or punks, resist arrest when they are caught. News said he was on his way home from work. I wonder if he used the same way home every day and somebody knew his schedule?? Prayers for his family. POWDERMAN.  :( :( :( :( :( :(

Sounds like a planned set-up.  It's happened in our area before.  No evidence, but lots of suspicion.  Shotgun slaughter.

like fourbee said, this was likely planned, and like others may just go unsolved...most likely personal, not work related

I recently spoke with a peace officer and he said that some gangs have an initiation that they have to kill a cop to be accepted in the group.  I hope they get the person that did this.

Sadly, there are some very bad people in the world.

I wonder if he/she/they were waiting on a cop or the cop just showed up before someone else.
It will not get better.

That it was an planned ambush is obvious. Why is another matter. Choice of weapon indicating motive? In close shotguns work very well, and tell nothin about motive. Only that it was effective.

Shows planning..  I suppose they are reviewing any convicts who he may have had  a part in putting in the pen..
Islamic terrorists have started on unarmed troops..Rigby in the UK, a French trooper last weekend, a soldier in Alabama a couple years ago..and then Ft Hood..   What's to say they won't start on LEOs?
They had no reservations about killing the innocent in the Boston marathon or on 9/11.
