AR 10 magazine?

I have had several AR 15s and have never had an AR magazine of any brand that would not work. I just bought my first AR 10 (a S&W M&P 10) and i am being told by some of my friends that some AR 10 magazines only work in certain brands of rifles. I have a friend that has several Armalite magazines for 308 and before I shell out the cash, I'd like to know if Armalite magazines will work in my S&W. Anybody know? I am kind of hoping my "expert" friends are full of **it. Thanks for the help.

iirc, the original Armalite AR10 'waffle' magazines will only work in Armalite AR10s. Perhaps the early models.

I would only buy from someone like Brownells with a no questions asked return warantee, just in case.

I suggest you do an on line search for 'AR10 magazines' and see what you find. It may help, it just confused me.

I believe the bushmaster ar10s use the armalite mags too.

I have an Armalite AR-10, and can tell you the standard Armalite magazines are model specific.  Armalite has recently introduced a model of the AR-10 that allows the use of Mag Pul, S&W, DPMS magazines in their weapons.  DPMS, Pmag, and most aftermarket magazines not specifically marked for the Armalite will fit your S&W.  Not sure about the Bushmaster mags, but I do believe I have read they are are usable as well, but check...

it would be nice if the FN-FAL mags could be used. Maybe just have a notch milled in them and leave the plate on the rear alone so it can still be used in an FN-FAL.
