Shooter's Bible ?
« on: May 30, 2013, 08:04:25 AM »
Hey Folks:  Occasionally I pick up a Shooter's Bible to keep up with the new models. Just wondering if there might be another book of that type that might be worth looking into.  I'm all ears, 'or' in this case; eyes.  :)

I think the best way is to subscribe to Guns and Ammo or one of the similar magazines. Shooters Bible is nice to flip through and it's worth reading annually, but they don't cover many new models. If there's something specific, it's best to pick a set of manufacturers and peek at their web sites occasionally. They usually make new developments prominent on those pages. Also, more specialized magazines are even better than general mags like G&A. Shotgun Sports, etc.

Also, I don't know if Tom Gresham is still doing his radio program, but I was getting it via podcast or his web site for a while. That's a good show. In fact, I should start listening again.

I grew up subscribing to Guns and Ammo, and several others too, but still like the ole mainstay gunbook....Yep; that's me.  I like sitting in my easy chair flipping through the pages, looking at what others have in their cabinets.  I haven't updated my old book since 2007, so guess I'll go get me a new one.

Gun Digest is another good source of new models, and in general a good read.  I still have a collection of old ones from when John T Amber used to edit it.  Its interesting to go back and see what was hot at the time, and drool over what the prices used to be..

I still subscribe to Rifle, Handloader, and American Handgunner magazines as they provide good coverage of the types of shooting / guns that interest me most.

i try to pick up a shooters bible
when a find one priced right that
has some decent things inside.
i used to make it a point to pick up
a guns and ammo annual every year
before they got so crappy, changed the
format, etc.
i think that was about the time mr. peterson
had passed, or had sold his publishing company.

i don't buy and trade as much as i used to,
but i still try to stay on top of what things
go for. it's tougher this day and age because so
many folks set unrealistic prices based on
website pricing vs. what someone will actually pay.

I got tired of seeing guns that never actually reached the dealers shelves.  Seems guns and ammo books show prototypes but don't tell you that.

I go to the gun makers web site to see what they are actually offering.

I get a new "Cartridges Of The World" every time they get reprinted.  I'm more interested in the cartridge, then the gun that shoots it.  Once I have decided on a specific cartridge, I then look for a gun that will do what I want to do with that cartridge.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Another recommendation for the Gun Digest.
In the 1920's "sheeple" was a term coined by the National Socialist Party in Germany to describe people that would not vote for Hitler. In the 1930's they held Hitler as the only one that would bring pride back to Germany and bring the budget and economy back.....

I am about to cancel all of my magazine subscriptions!!  I am getting tired of looking at the newest 1911 or Ar I could scream!  I have 5 1911 pistols and certainly mdont think I need another and as far as a Ar goes I outgrew them yrs. ago,  I will just give the magazines another 10 yrs. or so to make some changes.  Jim
