First bench of the new "Mancave "is done
« on: May 30, 2013, 11:30:58 AM »
Had the afternoon off so I decided to make a trip to Lowe's and pick up some 2x4's and a couple 8' - 1x12's . This is the bench is were I'm going to set up my single stage press's along with my Lyman 450 for sizing my cast bullets . I went with a OL height of 37" so that a 24" barstool would work out well and it lets me keep all the bench's the same even under the windows along the long wall .

I still need to get a couple walls framed up to totally enclose the space from the rest of the garage , I'm planning on putting 1/2" CDX on the outside of these walls to allow for shelves and hooks to keep lawn tools , ect on and 1/2" drywall on the inside , I also have a 8' 240 volt baseboard heater that should keep the space nice and toasty in the colder months .

The best part is I now have a path through both sides of the garage and a stack of empty boxes to burn up  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D its progress !  ;)

Stimpy, do yourself a favor and visit a construction salvage place.  Pick up some of the old commercial solid oak doors.  They'll cost ya about the same as a 4x8 sheet of ply and make some serious benches with a bit of ingenuity.  You're probably too busy right now makin the big bucks to worry about such things though.   ;D ;D ;D   Hang in there bud.  Good luck on the new digs.

I was fortunate enough to get a room in the house for myself so the flip side is if my gun room is IN the house this time it has to be "decent". I went down and bought 2 pre-fabbed cabinet sections and a nice countertop that had a busted corner and then mounted it on the cabinets. Painted the cabinets to match the other stuff in the house as this was already an "approved" color and had it in the extras. Now it looks pretty damn slick. Only prob is when I anchored it to the wall the whole damn house resonates the noise while I'm reloading.
I hate when i miss. But when I do, I can always come up with a reason why.

Normally I'd say we need pics. But in this case a video may be in order!  ;)

I got lucky too , the new house is built into a hill so the garage is under the house with a full 2 car space as well as a large finished family room , fireplace and a 1/2 bath . I snagged the stall on the outside wall which gives me a great 4'x4' window for natural light / air flow but I still need to install some bars at the window for security .

I've been worried about that. The window in that room goes to the front of the house in a little nook that can't be seen while you're standing it. Perfect spot for a vagrant to climb in. Pain locking all my optics and stuff in the safe. I was thinking about whipping up some bars when the "looking decent" talk came back up. We've been looking at some more "visually pleasing" options. Instead of just plain bars I think if I twist some square barstock and maybe scroll some roundstock I'll get approval. What has it came to? LOL
