Couple weeks ago I sent a receiver in for a 223 Superlight. This is for my 5.56 Hornet, a 223 Superlight loaded to match the Hornet so I'll have a Hornet Superlight. For where I plan to shoot this rifle I need a low report and Hornet range. While I was impatiently waiting for my barrel to be fitted I stumbled on a bonus project rifle. Came across a NIB 300 AAC Blackout on Gunbroker at a price even Pete would not have passed up.
I'd not seen a 300 BO in person, and I'm going to echo what others have said, my gosh this thing is small. Mine measures total length of 29.75". I looked up a Chipmunk youth rifle and they list OAL as 31". This 300 BO barrel is the first H&R extractor I've seen that has zero play in it, it fully extends as far as it can. The barrel also fits very well to the receiver. I wonder if H&R put a higher QC in for AAC? That being said the forearm screw was put in by someone who was either VERY angry or trying to tap the barrel with it.
The other aspect of the 5.56 Hornet project I want to accomplish is coming up with a method to do load development at the range. I want to be able to change the charge and/or seating depth and then shoot that bullet. Sitting on my deck in the wind I've come up with a way to weight powder which was the hurdle. I'll start another thread and update it as I go for the 5.56 Hornet. Hopefully I'll remember the camera.
As for the 300 BO, I'd not planned on that one so I hadn't gathered up the components like I did for the 5.56 Hornet. I have some 110 grain bullets for the 30 Carbine and a couple different powders so that's what I'll try. The war on components cannot end soon enough.
