Credit card use
« on: May 31, 2013, 05:29:18 AM »
I have a credit card but don't use it much, just for travel and mail order. Have been thinking of switching away from checks because a lot of places don't take them anymore. I really like checks because I keep a check register that logs all the payments I make with checks. I want to keep doing that if I switch to credit card. Do you do something like that? Have you found a good register to carry around with you? Thanks!

Also, I see that some cards have enticements associated with them, like discounts or cash back. Have you found those to be worthwhile?

most businesses debit checks anymore.
i try to pay cash for everything i can and
use cards only when i have to. all the
cash back and stuff i don't pay mind to.
it's still true that there is no free lunch
and something for nothing doesn't work.
if you have a citibank card , you should
review your statement carefully, i've had
one in the past, and they try to put false
late fees in the middle of the statement.
i caught it the first time and called them
and they took it off. i caught two more
and had the account closed. i think they
count on the vast majority of folks that
only look at the amount owed and never
give the itemized statement a second
glance to make their money off of. it's
easier to me to pay cash as much as
possible to keep ahead of any unnecessary
expenses. if i think i don't have the cash
for a purchase, it makes me think a
potential purchase over twice. if you have
a credit card, you'll still have to send a
check or money order in to pay your monthly
bill. cut up any debit cards, they're too
easy to scam.
