Started shooting high??
« on: June 02, 2013, 04:39:23 AM »
I have a Winchester 1000X made by Daisy, a break bbl 1000fps gun, I have owned three or four years, has about 500 rnds thru it.  All was well, until a few months ago I noticed it started shooting high.  I have the rear sight as low as it will go, and it still shoots about 10 inches high at 25 yds. I have not changed pellets,  and I have checked the gun, can't find any reason for the change.  Anyone have an idea?   Wallace in Ga.

If the barrel has been allowed to slam into the closed position (like if you partially cocked it and let it go), it can bend upward.

Check the stock screws, too. I have that same gun, and I had to Locktite all the screws to keep them from backing out, especially the back one by the trigger guard.

Did your gun start shooting high when the screws backed out?

I think mostly mine just opened up the groups, but loose front screws will make it generally shoot high. The hardest one to keep tight on mine is the big one in back.

do you have any kids? like maybe one that may have used the gun without you knowing? as victor said. the sudden high poi is usually caused by a bent barrel. a sure sign, if that is a possibility, is to check the grip area of the stock,. especially if it has a wood stock. the bent barrel is usually accompanied by a cracked stock at the grip. though not always.
