Why don't some get it ?
« on: June 05, 2013, 09:13:07 AM »
Why is it several areas of the north seem to worry about how Southerners feel about the War of Northern aggression ? They seem to troll looking for a heated debate. They worry about our heritage and try to tell us how wrong we are.
What part of we don't care is it they don't get ? We love what we have for the most part.
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Seems that since many refer to it as the "War of Northern Aggression" it means that they *do* care about it - amiright?

From a historical point I do . But if push came to shove and America needed us to pull together to over come a crisis I would work with any other American to win.

The North / South debate when in good humor is a fun past time when it turns ugly it does no good.
BTW. people from the North who move to the South are called Da-- Yankee's . I don't know if people from the South move North or not but if they did , do ya'll have a funny name for them ?

I was always taught that they are only called that if they stay...  ;)

Well, since I moved up North & I've met a few fellow Southerners up here that did likewise I'd have to say some do make the move.  The only funny name they have for us up here is "redneck", but that only applies to a certain group of Southerners that moved up here - and some that are native to the North are called that too so it isn't just for Southerners.  Oh I suppose there is "hillbilly" too, but some thing applies there as well.

Shootall & Justashooter;
   Don't let some jerk spoil your day!  I was born in the north (NY State) and live there today, however I have lived several years in the south, both in the military & otherwise..  I like the south, sure enough..and I like the north..outside of the cities...
  I live in very rural NY and if you were to hear the term "redneck" around here, we would be more likely be using it on each other, rather than anyone else..
  That smart-aleky attitude normally comes from the cities, and they are a different breed of cat.  They often put on an urbane, "cool", even superior attitude, but I believe they secretly admire the freewheeling independence and versatility of country folks, who generally know enough to raise their own foodand take care of most any problem which may come up on their acreage.  After all, the big city dwellers are very dependent upon others for almost anything..water, sewage, even a place to park their car..it seems they would HAVE to envy we who are not so constrained..
          Northern country folks have much more in common with southern country folks than they ever can with northern city folks.

You bring up a good point , I think up state New York is a beautiful as well as places in many Northern states and the people are very nice. But the cities even in the South breed less than nice people a lot of the time. And some Southern cities are far more dangerous than in the North . Keep in mind I grew up in a city that gave Detroit and New Jersey a run for murder capital of America. Of course we has a North side and a South side   ;) ;) ;D ;D

The north side is the uppity side and the South side is the redneck side of course what that means is the old money is north and new money is south. The West end is north of the river which is the real old money.
We are from south of the river and my wife worked at a savings and loan north of the river, she had waited on several people for years then in conversation they found out she came from south side ( note she really grew up a hundred miles away from here) and they refused to let her wait on them anymore. They were old and set in their ways.

I get SHOOTALL, regardless at the fun I poke at the Yankees.  I agree with everything you said.

I've even thought of moving north myself to get out of this infernal heat.  Seems like it never snows anymore here in the mountains until Feb. or March, long after hunting season.  I don't mean to imply global warming, just saying I surely do miss the snow.  As a kid, up until I was near 45 (now I'm 65), I remember super cold hunting seasons and lots of snow.
Tracking rabbits was a certain activity in the pre-Christmas days of my youth.  We have a law against hunting quail in the snow, but heck, there are no more quail where I'm at.
Regardless of the people in the south or north and regardless of their ways, and even regardless of my lack of snow, it's still the United States of America.  I don't know how much longer it will be that, but in the interim I'll respect and support any race and any culture that is a legal part of our society.

Shootall;
  People who act as those people did to your wife, don't have to be called names..they have named themselves by their actions..
  Mike;
   I agree, USA first!  Our problem is not North/South..our internal enemy we all must come to grips with are the people who want to "fundamentally change" the USA..  Who in blue blazes..besides a foreign raised child of curious heritage , wants the US "fundamentally changed"?  What's wrong with th eUSA we were bequeathed by our progenitors ?

Gross generalization - big city folks have much more in common with other big city folks, pretty much no matter where the big cities are, than they have with rural, and often even suburban, folks in their own states.

Even citizens of San Francisco and Los Angeles, with their mutual loathing of each other, have more in common with each other, or New Yorkers,  than either has with people in Taft, Lodi, Hemet, or Clearlake.

  Thanks Joe, but with Lodi, Hemet etc, you're still talking bigger towns than I am..although still not cities.  I'm talking small town or hamlet, similar to where I live.  One should be able to walk from his house to hunting in a couple/few minutes.. ;)   I am speaking about villages like Weedville, PA..Leicester, VT (an Army buddy lives there) or ...East Concord, NY...or..Orland , ME  (about the same size as the hamlet where I live ).
  Look them up on Google Earth..and you can see what I mean.

A dear friend of the family told me that he was 21 years old before he found out that "Damn Yankee" was two words. He was raised in Florida.
