I now have a 16 gauge shotgun
« on: June 05, 2013, 02:58:51 PM »
Found a H&R 088 16 gauge on Armslist over the weekend. Traded cash and a bulk box of 22 ammo for it. Receiver is a AZ prefix in average shape, stock is plain with plastic pad and barrel is 16 gauge H&R with mod choke. Fit between underlug and frame was really tight and would not open or close properly. I did the deal because I wanted the 16 barrel. Got it home and the barrel fit perfect on my 20 gauge frame. Now to go get some ammo and test it. Will post a pic tomorrow. Now I should get a 12 gauge barrel for the heck of it.

I actually have two of the 16 ga guns myself, one is a model 158 and the other is one of the discontinued sb1 models. I absolutely love the 16 ga guns, almost as much as my .410s. I just can't seem to miss with them, for some reason they just seem more effective than the 12 ga. maybe, its my fascination with that guage verses the 12 ga. but I would take it over the 12 any day. As far as shells go, Walmart did carry them for a while, and Farm and Fleet does have them as I just bought 2 boxes in Lacrosse, wi. the other day. there are not as cheap as 12 or 20 ga shells but with a single shot, its not like your going to burn through em quick ;D  nice thing about em is they don't fly off the shelves like the rest of the ammo recently :'(

Love the 16 gauge!  Careful - it's easy to get hooked on them! ;D

You managed to sneak a bulk box of .22 past Obama?

I have an mod choke 088 16 gauge with an AU serial number, almost the same as yours. I love it, I've killed 3 turkeys, a Canadian goose and a whole bunch of squirrels with it. I also have a newer SB1 16 gauge with a full choke that my son uses.

I love my 16 full choke H&R and have been looking for a 16 gauge H&R modified barrel for a long time now. I just missed one about a week age here on the site ( :( ) and will continue to look for my elusive modified choke 16 gauge barrel. I have looked a couple of years now and hope to find one someday (hopefully soon)....<><.... :)
