Israel Builds Sinai Border Fence; Illegal Crossings Drop 99.9%    Joel B. Pollak
4 Jun 2013

This week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has touted the success of a new border fence that Israel built along its boundary with Egypt to stop illegal infiltrators. In a statement posted at his government website, Netanyahu reported that illegal crossings had declined 99.9%, from 2,000 per month to only two.

"The fence that we built in the south is achieving the result for which it was erected," Netanyahu said. "As opposed to the over 2,000 infiltrators who entered Israel exactly one year ago and dispersed to various cities, in May 2013 exactly two infiltrators crossed the border and were detained. Now we need to focus on repatriating the illegal infiltrators who are here, and we will meet this task as well."

The main, 144-mile section of the fence was completed in early 2013, according to a January report by the Wall Street Journal. It is sixteen feet high and includes "barbed wire, surveillance cameras and radar." By comparison, the U.S.-Mexico border is roughly 2,000 miles long, and only about a third is fenced off. The Israeli fence's construction was accelerated due to security concerns in the years since Egyptian autocrat Hosni Mubarak left power, leaving a vacuum eventually filled by a Muslim Brotherhood government.

The new Israeli fence is separate from the fence that runs along, and partially inside, the West Bank, which has successfully stopped infiltrations by suicide bombers. It also placed a small amount of disputed territory on the western, "Israeli" side of the fence while creating some hardship for local land owners and workers.

What really bumfuzzels me is that  right here in Texas we have people who build miles of fences everyday that can hold all sorts of critters. , Why the heck is it taking so long to build 2000 miles of it? Heck if its a labor problem we got a couple million folks on welfare and unemployment who can use a job. Wanna check? build some fence.   two birds/one stone. won't happen cause it makes sense

  • I feel much better now knowing it will get worse.
Is there even a slight but unreported possibility that mines are used on that fence?

Nothing wrong with AP mines, so long as there are clear warning signs, clearly informing potential fence jumpers of the risk they are taking.  If Washington were about closing off illegal entry, that is a very cost-effective way of doing it!
I heard a fellow on the radio the other day, who raises Africanized "killer bees"..they are very productive, he claims that hives of them along the border, with appropriate warnings, would be a great deterrent..and again, cost effective, with honey as a by-product..

I don't see a problem with mines either. If you got them, why not come clean with the Info.

Of course, we don't KNOW if there are mines located there.  If there are, they should warn any trespassers with proper signage.

Don't know about posting to warn trespassers, I'd bet they already know they aren't supposed to be there. They are trespassing , right? Kinda of the illegal alien type, right? Anyhow, the first fella will find out soon enuff :o  My property is "posted and gated" but there is no sign warning of biting dogs, or armed property owners, but guess what.... trespass here and hope I'm home, cause the wife is of the shoot first then sort out the after math and them dang mutts will bite ME if she hollars!  Heck sometimes, I'm skeered to come home  ;)  lol

Myhunting  property is about 5 miles from my house..posted along the front..but the signs don't deter very much.  I see tracks quite often, with an ATV trail across one corner.  I just try to keep cool..they are mostly folks on the next road who only have a corner lot.
A fellow can grow old quick...worrying about such things.  I have a friend who has a lake cottage nearby who is a SWAT team member  with a city police dept., and I have a large grandson ..both of whom hunt my land and are a bit more zealous than I.  I expect the trespassing will cut drastically in the near future.
