Got the Handi out to the range today!
« on: June 08, 2013, 07:46:48 PM »
Finally got to take out our little rifle this weekend! Put an old k3 on the 45.-70 to verify it is capable of shooting where it is aimed. worked great! so the factory sights are definitely Wrong! that front sight seems to be about .250 too tall. but with the scope and plain base 405s we were hitting two liter pop bottles at 100. The .223 shot well, but after extraction the extractor puts so much upward force against the case you can't remove with your fingers. I found by putting a little downforce on the extractor with a small screw driver the cases slide right out. will have to look to that. I swapped my .223 SL that would not eject to a fellow on here for this one. It does shoot factory ammo very well. The .243 I bought on here shot nice and straight right off, fit our frame very well I think it's a keeper. Last one up was our .357max. I stumbled on a load for the 38 that is dead on at 50 with the same sight setting as the 180 fpj is in the maxi at 200! I love shooting the max right at sundown, about 8 inches of orange muzzle flash, neat. All in all a good time. Our 10 year old was busting clay chips at 100 with her .22. Great way to spend a Saturday evening.

I'm glad you guys had a good time.  We spent all day planting in the garden ::)
Knock out the rear pin on the barrel lug, pull the extractor and the leaf spring under it.  Flatten out the spring a bit.  It's a simple fix.

We went to spenceville. Went back again today to test how much recoil I can stand in the .45-70. So far max trapdoor loads are OK. will move into lever gun loads next. got to find my limit cause I want to use this rifle on an Asian water buffalo!
