Well, apparently - it's both comforting and a point of pride with some folks.

No - I referred to folks who imply that knowledge is immoral, in the case of weed, and that willful ignorance is somehow virtuous. If I meant otherwise, I'd have said so.

You don't have to know the subject in depth to make a decision on it . If someone knows it alters ones mental ability to do a job that very well may be enough for them to dis like it. I would like to see pot not be a crime ( tired of wasting tax money)and would also like to see more testing at work. I can tell you from experience those on pot do not preform their duty as well as when not influenced by pot. $0 years od working around it has proven that to me. So let the pot heads do as they wish at home but if they want a job be free of chemicals that take away from the quality of their work. That is freedom  on both sides.

back in the 70's I watched a guy who was smoking pot at work set a water closet three times fill it each time . It would flood out on the bath room floor because he had not removed the test  plug from the closet flange. After watching him three times another guy showed him is error. I still see such on jobs including one guy get killed.

The same can be said of alchohol, diphenhydramine, and coffee for some. I'd argue against the simplistic position that if one uses weed - or alcohol? - one is necessarily going to be high or inebriated at work.

Problem with that is, currently, pot testing is designed to eliminate folks who use it, anytime - not just at work. Imagine if they applied that standard to drinkers.

I'd not argue with on that, in most cases.

Yes I agree 100% and feel the same way about them , I don't like smokers as in many cases it hurts production.

Bottom line , it someone wants to do something that will/could harm another or slow production I'm for eliminating it from work.

Another point you're missing. MOST repetitive, soul killing jobs today require no where near the complete ability of the workers to do them. Some people are never going to give you 100%, no matter what you do, no matter if they are stone cold ,sober. Ask yourselves, does your job take 100% of your ability? If the answer is, "No." then those workers are you.  Foodservice work is that way. Assembly line work is that way. Most construction work is that way. To the point that places where the workers get tested a lot go out of business. It's a new world.
If you give up, THEY don't have to win.

No need to construct a false extrapolation...One doesn't have to pee on an electric fence to learn about conductivity..nor swallow strychnine  to find out it is poisonous..  More intelligent is the man who learns by observation...and is not so slow -witted as to unnecessarily ingest assorted chemicals and poisons.
Wilful ignorance, is somebody who voluntarily pollutes his own gray matter for a useless cause..   That's a sign of a weak personality..that craves a "crutch"..

Hay I saw photos of a guy who peed on an electric fence. People do not try this at home!
His winkie looked like a BBQed summer sausage. Man that had to hurt.  :o

But did you know that birds can eat strychnine with no problems? But they can not eat a simple
avocado, it is deadly poison to them.  Mammals produce an enzyme that makes it ok for us to
eat them. Parrots can eat them but they make them very sick.
Avocados are distant cousins of the nightshade family.

Now, I guess that would be grasping..  I confess, I  had to look up exactly what an LS2 and a trailblazer was.  Being as I am more into compact vehicles and just consider cars as 'transportation'..I don't stay abreast of many developments, especially in the mega-cc sizes.
I did find this on U-tube, apparently this fellow just loves the sound of his LS2..

Of course there are many who are not near 100% and many accidents and why OSHA has a separate standard for construction. To the point that places where the workers get tested a lot go out of business. No not really in the cases I have seen they pay the most to get better workers mostly with more skill and by the same token are getting the better paying contracts BECAUSE THEIR WORKERS GIVE MORE PRODUCTION WITH LESS MISTAKES. It's a new world. Maybe but not better in many ways.

Another point you're missing. MOST repetitive, soul killing jobs ..Correction:  it is not a job which kills the soul!  See..(John 14:6) today require no where near the complete ability of the workers to do them. Some people are never going to give you 100%, no matter what you do, no matter if they are stone cold ,sober. Ask yourselves, does your job take 100% of your ability? If the answer is, "No." then those workers are you.  Foodservice work is that way. Assembly line work is that way. Most construction work is that way  That statement simply proves you have very little knowledge of on-site construction jobs. that is a very ignorant statement , safety alone demands one to be alert. Of course there are many who are not near 100% and many accidents and why OSHA has a separate standard for construction.   To the point that places where the workers get tested a lot go out of business. Not actually, the jobs which require testing get the better employees on average, which causes the addicts to cluster around the non-testers.No not really in the cases I have seen they pay the most to get better workers mostly with more skill and by the same token are getting the better paying contracts BECAUSE THEIR WORKERS GIVE MORE PRODUCTION WITH LESS MISTAKES. It's a new world.Huxley's "Brave New World" was a world where most people were drugged up on "Soma", walking around like zombies..and they could get Soma wholesale, the government saw to it!..check it out !     Maybe but not better in many ways.

You know you and QDC and some of the other small minded liberals here have no problem making fun of the religous, the capitalists, the conservitives or anyone that does not agree with your views of the world.  Why is it that you can make fun of them but can not atke a little ribbing on what you say?
You all scream about bullying and freedom of speach but I guess that only applies to you and not everyone else.   You can not have it both ways.  In the 60's the liberals screamed that they had a right to speach and some how you have morphed that into you have to be heard to you must be obayed.
If you can not take a joke maybe you should not be telling your own.

Last time I checked Alchol and tabaco were legal.  taxes are paid on the proiducts, and there are laws to limiting the behavior and use of them.  You can not smoke a cigarette in most places you can not operate a car after having too much and if I have drink in a bar or restaraunt it will not effect you.  But if you smoke a joint in those same places your smoke will effect me.  If I have had too many drinks I can be cut off or cut my self off if you are smoking I can not be cut off as you partake.
There are a few different tests to see if I have had too many drinks and should not be driving, there are not tests to over indulging in pot and driving and becoming a danger on the roads.
OH yea and What the pictuires show President Regan doing is legal.

Sorry, but you don't seem to have kept up with the times, guys. I have several relatives, friends, and acquaintences who own their own construction companies, from roofing to framing to landscaping. Here's how it works today: every morning they take a truck to the local shanty town under the bridge. The homeless guys (and gals)  know those trucks. When the truck stops, they all line up, and the guy in the truck goes down the line, eliminating anybody that looks too messed up to work that day. Then they pick the best of the ones left. That's the companies' day labor for that day. At day's end they pay them all in cash and drop them back "home" in shantytown. There are no "professional" roofers, ditch diggers, materials handlers, landscape workers, and damned few real carpenters any more. This is how capitalism works today. This is what capitalism has created. They don't have to drug test these guys because they're considered contract labor. Why do you think houses that are 50 years old cost more than houses 5 or 10 years old? Whatever capitalist utopia you have in your mind, it's wrong. What I've just described is the reality.

By the way, trying to inject your own religious convictions into this discussion has no relevance--- it might make you feel better, self righteous, and all, but to those guys actually doing the work, it's of no consequence.
If you give up, THEY don't have to win.

CDQ, your right. You have described what goes on in home construction, roofing, siding, etc. Probably don't happen to often in commercial constuction. Unions would have a fit. If this guy is guilty, throw him in the hoosgow, and fine the crap out of the company that hired him. gypsyman

CDQ that may be what your relatives work it is not the norm for all trades. Like I mentioned before the drug free workers are working for companies that do quality work mostly and work with a high degree of skill involved. But there are times when a druggie slips in but there are some very skillful tradesmen.  By the way how do your relatives keep the books incase the feds audit them ? You do know transactions like you posted often get taped these days.

I should have said "unregulated capitalism." A basically capitalist economy is probably the best--- for individuals. For someone to be on top, in capitalism, somebody has to be on the bottom. All I want is to narrow the middle--- make the top lower and the bottom higher. Why do people have to live under the bridge, especially when the top 1% has to decide which yacht they are going to take out? It's (and I NEVER say this) sinful. However, if you are not familiar with the practices I've described, you don't know how 90% of the work gets done here.
