Moscow police detained 300 Muslims after President Vladimir Putin ordered a crackdown on radical Islamists ahead of next year’s Winter Olympics in Sochi.
The 300 people, including 170 foreigners, were held at a Muslim prayer room in the capital, and police said Islamist literature had been confiscated, according to Radio Free Europe.
It is the third such raid targeting Muslim places of worship in Moscow or St. Petersburg this year, Reuters reported.
The “fight against corruption, crime and the insurgency has to be carried out harshly and consistently,” Putin told a meeting of security force officers, according to the radio station

I do not agree with many of Putin's actions.  But in this case I feel he is right on.

Putin said he would allow what he called splinter religions as long as it didn't pose any problems.
There is no telling what really was the cause of this action but like him or not Putin is a no
nonsense leader when it comes to the security of his country.
If you look at any of his actions brutal or not they are always for Russia first and formost.
And by the way Putin and his wife are people of faith and he does not care for Obama.
He will deal with people like Obama as a part of his job but he draws the line when it comes to
the security of his country. And for you Libs he did not care for neither one of the Bush presidencys
either. With the intel he has at his fingertips perhaps its that he doesn't care for fakes.
He was lukewarm with Clinton but he did get along with Palin while she was the governor of Alaska
over the Bering straits and the shipping that goes through there.

I hadn't read that but I do know there was some family related problems they were haveing with
each other. Lyudmila has wanted him to step down out of politics for a long time now.
I guess she may have finally put her foot down.
Russia has a lot of ethnic Muslims in it with the territory's it controls. Georgia was one of them at
one time so Putin still has to keep an eye on that place. Eastern Orthodox Chritianity is still the main
religion there and Islam only makes up around 10% of that population, but a lot of them migrated to
Russia right after the collapse and the war out of religious freedom as they called it.
There is only one operating Mosque in Georga in the town of Tbilisi but there are also two Jewish
synagogues there in that same town.

I also saw an article about Putin and his wife getting a divorce.  Just read the headlines, not the story.  I think it was on FOX Headline News last Thursday.

On February 4th, 2013, Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, addressed the Duma, (Russian Parliament), and gave a speech about the tensions with minorities in Russia:

"In Russia live Russians. Any minority, from anywhere, if it wants to live in Russia, to work and eat in Russia, should speak Russian, and should respect the Russian laws.
If they prefer Sharia Law, then we advise them to go to those places where that's the state law. Russia does not need minorities. Minorities need Russia, and we will
not grant them special privileges, or try to change our laws to fit their desires, no matter how loud they yell 'discrimination'. We better learn from the suicides of
America, England, Holland and France, if we are to survive as a nation. The Russian customs and traditions are not compatible with the lack of culture or the primitive
ways of most minorities. When this honorable legislative body thinks of creating new laws, it should have in mind the national interest first, observing that
the minorities are not Russians."
The politicians in the Duma gave Putin a standing ovation for five minutes.
