possible hardware source.....

Reid Supply sends me an email circular at work this one contained cast eye bolts and unthreaded blanks..... http://www.reidsupply.com/sku/WB-11/  may be adaptable to a project.......

Are they really cast or are they forged?

Forged would be much stronger than cast if you are actually putting a significant load on them.
