My Small, "Small Cannon" Collection
« on: June 10, 2013, 09:28:54 AM »
 ;)

And that's what it is..., I'm sure they are all one-offs (IMHO) and think I have posted on two before. The newest is the Civil War "Style" Fortress Cannon. The other two firs, with the Naval Style being .50 cal. and the WW1 Submarine Deck Gun firing .22's and dated 1919.

Any thoughts on the CW Fortress Platform Cannon, as to what may have gone through the two holes? Or, anyone ever see something similar? I thought perhaps a wooden base, butt then why have the holes go all the way through? Possibly for a swivel platform?

Thanks for looking!

Mike,
I believe that you're right in thinking that all three models are machinist made one-offs. The holes in the platform of the seacoast gun could have been to fasten it to another piece, or it may have just been a scrap piece that already had the holes drilled. Keep up your efforts in collecting.
RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

The one thing that you can almost always rely on research leading to, is more research.
