Aint that bad with factory loads. Lever evo's are a walk in the park. My heavies that i use in my Marlins are a little more "get your attention". Thats why im thinking trail boss may be a good choice for something light n easy

Looking forward to range results. I give you credit for having the nerve to chop down a barrel. I've only done it once to a barrel that had a pitted bore near the muzzle so I had nothing to lose. But if I keep reading about these shorties I may have to try it some day. Like you, I would like one strickly for heavy cast loads in either 44, 444 or 45/70.

I have a 444 as well. I'd love to hear some range results too. I'd chop mine if I knew accuracy would not suffer. Please let us know how it shoots with full power loads as well as trail boss. Thanks for sharing.

It looks 'purposeful', Joe  ;D
Im sure you realize the TB load at 100% will still be 'soft', but with that weight it should drive deep enough for most things short of 'serious', and even some of that. Likely perfect for cast bullet (especially GC) velo's.

Oh yea. Its gonna be a short range deer gun is all. Most ranges will be 50-75 yards but i want it to shoot good at 100. If it does at 100 it will at 50 no sweat. :)

If you have any 2400 around you might want to try from 18 to 22 gr.

I remember the story about "The Emporer's New Clothes!"

And how everyone oohed and awwed until one young girl finally said, "I don't see it!"

This orgasmic hankering to chop off barrels! ..... ?

dumb!

Why not go with a .445 Super instead of the .444?

Would be just as efficient (most likely), but MUCH more versatile and also permit use of the .44Mag and .44Special from THAT [too] short gun!

That .444 ought to be spectacular!  Every time its fired at dawn or or dusk with fireballs accompanying some incredible muzzle blast!

Oh yeah, "enjoy!"   ::)

Tell ya what couger...

Send me all the 445 supermag brass you have, along with dies and barrel, and i'll be glad to use it.

Ya see, im setup to load and shoot 444 through my other short 444, a Marlin Outfitter, so what would really be "dumb" is to buy a totally new setup that i dont need, much less want, just to keep someone from being a name caller because i did something they dont think is a good idea. ;)

I would say hope this helps you understand, but i bet id be wrong... :-P

That'd be a great gun for the thick woods or swamps. If it were mine I'd go with a WGRS rear sight and a firesight on the front instead of the scope and head for the thick stuff. ;) :)
Have fun with it and let us know how it shoots.

with proper loads, 16-18" is all you really need...     longer is dimishing returns.

Couger:  there is a saying...  if I have to explain it to you, you probably wouldn't understand it!    I say the same thing to folks who say, "Heck, for $325 you could buy yerself a Savage Axis....  Why would you buy a cheap SINGLE SHOT?"

Joe S:   if you are using a faster powder, and not pushing velocity too high, try your cast with some 45/45/10 tumble lube, and NO gas check...  you may save yourself some $$$ and time, and have the same success

+1

I'd look into the Skinner sights also

they look GREAT on a Handi, and let you get your check down on the stock better
