I personally own four .300 Savage rifles. A Savage Model 99 from 1956, a Remington 722 from 1949, a Remington 700 Classic and a limited run (300 pieces) Remington 7600 pump. All four are wonderfully accurate with the Savage 99 and Remington 722 holding an edge in the accuracy department. I've killed deer with the 99 and the 722 using the 150 grain WWPP and Nosler 150 grain Ballistic Tip. Each was a bang flop, DRT. I use the now discontinued Alliant Reloder 12 powder to achieve 2700fps +. When I heard that Alliant was going to discontinue Reloder 12, I did the LGS circuit and bought 19 pounds of RL-12, Lot 12. I use RL-12 in the .300 Savage, 30-06, .35 Remington, .358 Win, and .35 Whelen. For some reason, my .308 Winchesters are just ho hum about RL-12, both in speed and accuracy.
