It's too hot here, going South
« on: June 14, 2013, 10:18:11 AM »
The weatherman is predicting low 80s today and 90 degrees this weekend.  We don't have Air Conditioning.  At night we are opening all the windows to cool the house down.  Then in the morning we close all the windows and insulated drapes to help keep it cool during the day.  Skyler's room is on the west side of the house it gets the hottest.  It is not getting dark here at night.  The sun goes just below the horizon then comes right back up.  The sun does not go far enough below the horizon for it to get dark.  All that sunlight gets to you sooner or later.  My bedroom is on the north east side of the house, it starts heating up by 6:30 or 7 AM.  I get up close the window and drapes.  A small window A/C unit has began to look good the last few years.  A few times this week found the wife out in the S-10 with the A/C blowing in her face.

We are leaving next Wednesday, driving to Montana.  A close friend is not allowed into Canada, and she is moving to Florida.  So I am driving her truck and a U-haul trailer to Montana for her.  Michelle is going with me.  Then we are flying to Oragon to visit with the Daughter-in-law and Grand kids.  My son is on assignment at present.  Then we are coming back to Alaska the first of July, with the oldest Grand Kid.  She is 13.  I asked for them to let her come for two weeks, her Mother changed it to a month.  OK with us.  We will be going to the Gym to swim every morning.  Then to the Archery range, two days a week.  The skeet range two days a week.  Then on weekends the wife and I plan to go on trips to the Denali Highway fishing in the Tangle Lakes area.  The wife is off every Friday till September due to Sequestration, she loves it.  Yes her pay check is going to be less, but she can afford it.  We may make a trip to Valdez for Halibut, then to the Gulkana river for Salmon.

Officially it was 88 degrees at the Airport, next to the glacial fed Tanana River.  Here in North Pole it got up to 90 degrees.  Mosquitos, as soon as the temp drops they come out in hoards.  They will completely cover you up in about two minutes.  I put on Sweat Pants, that are baggy and long enough to cover my ankles.  Hooded Sweatshirt with the hood up and drawn tight.  Gloves, and a Mosquito net over my head, just to walk the dog.  I have to empty the Mosquito Magnet twice a day.  That is keeping them at bay around the front door.  Still when anyone comes in they bring in about a dozen on them.  Everyone sits watching TV or reading with a bug zapper beside them.

Opened all the windows last night and turned on all the fans.  Cooled the house down to the mid 50s last night.  Have now closed all the windows and drapes.  The house will stay cool all day now.  Sun has been shining on the East side of the house since 3AM.  It's already 75 Deg outside at 8AM from an over night low of 53 Degrees.

Leaving Wednesday Morning for Canada.  Will be in Canada for a week.  Then Oragon for a week.  Hopefully the big hatches of mosquitos will be dying off by then.  Think I'll go back to bed for a couple of hours, not in a hurry to go mow the grass.

Depends on how far south he goes!  Is only 59 here (U.P.) this morning at almost 11:30AM.  Wife couldn't stand it, she built a fire in the woodstove to take the chill off.  Been cooler than normal here all spring.

I've noticed that quite often the weather up in Alaska is a fairly reliable predictor of the type of weather we will have here in a week or so.  Maybe we're in for a significant warm up coming soon.

No shortage of mosquitos though!

It will be a lot cooler in the Yukon, and British Columbia.  Alberta that's questionable.

My kids that live in anchorage flew back yesterday. They called saying how hot it was. They had been here in Florida visiting for 3 weeks, but with the pool & air on in the house it's tolerable.

Wife wants to postpone our return to Alaska until fall. Too hot up there she says.  ;D can you imagine that.

The temp has been in the upper 80s in North Pole since we left.  Down through Canada it was in the upper 60s and lower 70s.  Perfect for me.

Called my neighbor last night he said it's going to be in the mid 90s today and tomorrow.  Glad I'm not there.  It's cool here in Oregon.  Temp is in the 60s.
