I just picked up a used, but unfired (not anymore it isn't
) Ilion made Sportster in .22 Mag, one thing that caught my attention in the store was the fact that the rifling appeared to be Marlin MicroGroove
It makes sense in a way, after all, H&R and Marlin were both assimilated by Remington/the "freedom" collective (Resistance is futile), so sharing technologies and such is to be expected
I really wanted to hate this gun, after all, it's an Ilion gun, not a *real* Gardner gun, but even after an extremely close inspection, I couldn't find anything wrong with it, aside from the polymer furniture that I hate, I'm going to replace the furniture with a Boyd's Thumbhole laminate set anyway
My first shots were at an old hard drive, and the CCI Maxi-Mags nearly fully penetrated the drive at 25Y, only the controller board stopped them
I forgot how nice the Sportsters were, light, pointable, shoulders naturally, and the Mag even had no more recoil than my ,22LR guns, it also seemed almost as quiet as a LR as well, must be the heavy receiver and breech, the only place for sound to escape from easily is the muzzle....
Anyway, is it normal for current Sportsters to have MicroGroove, or did I get a unique build?
