Went to Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie this spring and Moultrie was a spotless very well maintained park. Had very well kept guns and carriages. Just don't get caught on the grass getting a muzzle shot or the NPS will chase you down. Maybe Clemson will start on the guns at Battery Park next.

     Thanks for the link, Flagman1776, this is one of our favorite places to visit after Ft. Pulaski in Georgia.  We are surprised to hear via Skidmark that most of the following pics could not be taken these days, what with the keep off the grass rule, etc.  Frankly, we did not mind groveling on the ground on the old imperfect grass to get our dimensions and photos at all (The 7 " Treble-Banded Brooke Rifle was mounted on 5" high wood chocks) in 2004.  Glad to help out, Skidmark; are these some of the photos you were looking to get?

Were these the cannons which were conserved?  We called it "Artillery Row" when we were there in 2004 and 2007.

You can get them but ya got to be in stealth mode, make sure the NPS mounties are tied up with a bunch of tourists on a tour. I got busted when I was up on the bank in front of the pivot carriages. I told her that I thought "Stay off the Grass" sign was a public service message to keep the kids from smokin it.

Some nice photo's ..... I haven't been there since 1967 (7yr old)..... I don't remember there being so many cannon there back then... got my first artillery book there ...Artillery through the ages..... over the years I wore the cover off it...... one thing I still remember to this day is walking in to the forts latrine and having to go! & doing what a 7 year old boy does when he's in a latrine...... of course I didn't realize it was part of the historic building until a group of ladies walked through..... an embarassing moment for a 7 year old..... :-[

     Beautiful pics, Skidmark!  Thanks for expanding the story, Flagman1776.  In the last link posted, I noticed this:  " The sensor system was developed by conservator Ron Harvey of Tuckerbrooke Conservation of Lincolnville, Maine."  Lincolnville, Maine?  Lincolnville, Maine!!  Mike and I remember Lincolnville, Maine from another New England exploration trip in June of 2007.  One of the nicest little towns on the Maine coast, we found it to be, with a broad beach, the Lobster Pound Restaurant and a cannon marked FALKIRK!  What's not to like??

     A few pics below give you the idea of the gems we find, bumbling along our great country's back roads and lanes.  This town is on OLD U.S. Route 1, largely by-passed by faster and more efficient highways these days.

The markings are explained in a post we did back in 2007, but I can't find it, maybe some of you computer savy fellows should post a "How to find things using the GBO Search Function".  I remember Cannonmn made a significant contribution to that discussion, but I still can't find that thread from 2007.

RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

The one thing that you can almost always rely on research leading to, is more research.

Easy to find! Just went to Google Images, searched for "falkirk gunade gbo" and clicked at a "gboreloaded.com" link showing a picture of the same gunade.
