GBO handi

I'd like the engraving and medallion stock set, then we could have any caliber.  Being GBO, afraid it would have to be a .45-70 I'd match it with.  :-)

The unofficial count is now fourteen.  Maybe we can actually get 200 if we keep this going.  This is a lot closer than when it was first suggested.

The minimum special order requirement was 250 firearms, not 200, not that it makes any difference, the most total votes received in any of the past polls for new offerings was 209, so getting even 200 members to agree on one offering is a pipe dream. :-\

Tim
Tim,

45-70.gov said that he would take a chance on selling the other 49, plus one for his own use.  Personally, I think that considering the rarity of Handis in that caliber, 45-70.gov, stands a pretty good chance on making some good money.  Just selling the barrels on that auction site would probably get him double what the complete gun would sell for.  We all saw the crazy prices paid recently for the VP 22LR, and 7.62x39 barrels on that auction site.  Imagine a 7x57 barrel for sale there, not to mention a GBO Limited Edition, marked receiver or stock set just on this site.

i talked to them years ago  a the shot show   about ''big lot''

but sure things have changed....think it was  about 10% below  distributer cost

quick  or brian  can answer that one i am sure

get 2oo people to ''prepay''  and i will order  the 250....take my chances on selling the other 49
I'm sure if all those that said they wanted a 7x57 in GBO dress (marked receiver/stock) prepaid, it could be done.  A total of 209 members said they wanted a particular caliber in the past, so I think it's possible to get the 200 for this run.  On second thought, I'll commit to buying three if it's a 7x57 with a marked GBO receiver/stock.

You can make that pipe dream count now fifteen. ;)

I'd like the engraving and medallion stock set, then we could have any caliber.  Being GBO, afraid it would have to be a .45-70 I'd match it with.  :-)
thumper,

Just think, if you committed to buying one of the GBO 7x57's, you could sell the barrel, make some moolah, and still have the marked GBO receiver and stock set, with which to make your .45-70.  Come on guys just think of the different GBO possibilities.

Oh, I'm in on any rifle.  Depending on what it is, maybe 2.

But I'd REALLY love to see us make the receiver engraving and stock sets happen even if the whole gun falls through.

You're still gonna have to convince a distributor to order at least 250, just because some member here says he'll order 50 is kinda weak from the distributor's perspective.

A total of 209 members said they wanted a particular caliber in the past, so I think it's possible to get the 200 for this run.

That's 209(203 actually) total votes , total in favor was far less at 166 for a 35 Rem accessory barrel. My point is hoping for 200 members to agree on one offering ain't gonna happen. Best advice to have any chance at success is to make the offering something that's sold well in the past.... like get Talo to offer the Trappers again, the 7x57 dream is a folly IMO, it got 91 votes last time, the 7x57 acc barrel poll is still open if anyone wants to add their vote to get an idea of current interest.

I think we'd stand a better chance getting and aftermarket company to make some barrels for us.  I know some of the places that make TC Contender barrels could do it but convincing them to is the hard part.

Or maybe finding a company that would mass produce Piny Creek's barrel stub for us so we could easily choose our own barrel.  Actually I think this would be our best option to get a Handi in an odd caliber and an improved barrel lug...

I still want a .25-35 AI more than any other round in a Handi and a 7x57 is a distant second...

Sorry guys, I don't get it.  If they don't offer what you want, just make it.  Just ask around about how many of us own non-standard calibers and configurations.  It ain't rocket science.  If'n ya want it, just do it.  You don't need a special run of anything.  If you have a lust for a special Handi, other than a belted magnum, just put it together.  Re-chamber, re-bore, Stub, stock selection, etc. are all available.  Quit sittin' around whinin' an complainin' an go make yersef one.

The problem is it nearly doubles the cost of the rifle.  That's why I've settled for a .25-06 when I really wanted a .25-35 Win.  I suppose the powers at be in control of the decisions at H&R  know this so they're only going to give us what we're already getting from them.

Unfortunately the competition isn't really picking up the slack either.  Rossi rifles are excrement and not really an option and CVA single shot rifles are made in even less calibers...

Tony, it doesn't always double the cost of the rifle.  There are rechambers that cost less or about the same as a box of cartridges.  The Maxi, .356/.358, the AIs, etc.  I know there are lots more in the .22 family, I just don't have any experience with them.

The problem with that Pete is that they don't make reverse reamers...... I can get a 25-06, can't ream it to 25/20. Can get a 7-08, cant ream it to 7 -30 Waters, and I cant make my 308 into a 32/20. If I were a machinist it would be easier, but at least we need SMALLER chambers to start with. ;)

I agree with geezerbike, I don't want a 7-08, or even a 7x57AI.  I settled for a Handi 7-08, because they don't have a 7x57 Handi available.  I do have a 7x57, but not in a Handi.

I'm afraid you're just gonna have to settle for what ya got, spend some $$$ to make one or wait for a 7x57 Handi owner to let loose of one.

If Graybeard approved the design, we should be able to find someone who could engrave an emblem on a receiver.  If a digital design were available, many trophy shops with CNC engravers could engrave your receiver while you wait.  Some machine shops with CNC mills could do the same.

After engraving, the design could be filled with gold or silver or blued depending on your tastes.

I started this post as a thought on a long drive home I did not know the past history on this subject only being a member here a few months. I have enjoyed reading all the post options. Many of the members are a lot more knowledgeable about rifles and calibers then I will ever be some of the calibers mention here I have had to look up in my reloading manuals just to see what there like. A few weeks back I let a colt 45 BC slip by for around $300 because I had not done enough research on the rechambering  it to 460 S&W I won’t let the next one get away. I know the members here give great advice and help many members with their problems. The thought of me  rechambering a low pressure round like the 45 colt to a high presser like S&W 460    is a little scary I know some members have done it and it worked great.  It was never my intension to complain or whine about the caliber selection of H&R. in any way I still don’t know all the calibers offered over the years but I want to learn. Two days ago I found 243 at a pawn shop on a sb1 frame the owner said it shoots fine a few months ago I might have bought that gun not knowing how stupid that guy was and how dangerous the gun is. To learn or get something you must first ask politely

And you even can get 7x57R brass for positive extraction. The improved cases have only a slight taper… and with full house loads extraction may become an issue.

Rimed cases almost always look better in single shot rifles. IMO

How about a stainless 357 with a synthetic stock with a medallion inlay, 20"?
