45-70 Brass with Small Primers.

I bought some 45-70 brass the other day at an auction. It is headstamped, LEVERGUN  45-70 Mag. I didn't notice it at the time but when I sat down to load it today I found it had small primers. I put some small rifle primers in them and figure I'll just load my normal loads. That is, unless someone knows a reason why I should do something different.

It was made for Buffalo Bore I believe.  It was to prevent detonation in the tube with Marlin rifles when using wide metplat bullets.  It worked fine for me.

Yup, they were in a Buffalo Bore box, but I didn't see any correlation between the box and the headstamp. So do you just load them like any other manufacturers case??

I did and they worked fine.  These days I kinda like the idea of being able to use whatever primers I can find.  I have heard there were ignition problems in really cold weather and that's why they quit making them.  I live in FL and it seemed to be a non-issue.
