When I was in the Army I was stationed in San Angelo, TX for two years and for a poor old Arkansas boy, it was heaven.

Plenty of places to fish.  Lots of public land to hunt.  No humidity!!!  If it weren't for family, I'd be living there today.

Still had a small town attitude about it and the friendliest folks on earth.  And did I say lots of public land to hunt?  It was paradise!

It would be a toss up between alaska and arizona.  Different attractions, but lots of land to explore and places to hunt.

Yeah, Arizona was nice.  Was stationed at Ft. Huachuca for two years.  The White Mountains were awesome.  The draw out there for deer is why I learned to bow hunt.

Hunting the hills where the Apache roamed was a super experience.  I've got a ridge and bowl on the backside of the Huachuca Mountains that will live in my heart forever.  I didn't see much of Arizona other than eastern border and south of Tucson.

Loved the weather but fishing was rough without a long drive and I hated the draw to be able to gun hunt.  But even more public land out there than West Texas.

I didn't get to see a lot of Alaska beyond Ft. Rich.  (Did get chased under a picnic table by a cow moose though:-))

I spent time in Flagstaff & Phoenix area as well as Fairbanks and Cold Bay in Alaska.  Enjoyed the fishing around Cold Bay as well as hunting.  Fairbanks was great for hunting.  Took my only "guided hunt" out of Flagstaff.  It wasn't a great success but saw some nice country.

Lol, between us we saw most of AZ, just different parts.  On my bucket list is to salmon fish in Alaska away from the crowds.  I just don't think I could live there.

Really good fishing and no crowds at Cold Bay, or was that way in 1970.

The Lord willing,  it will be north east Texas somewhere between Tyler and Paris Texas.  Hope to buy some acreage and build a house inside a hill facing to the north east.  Hope to get about 160 acres with a pond.  10 yrs till I retire.  Found a couple of places for about 250,000 with 100+ acres with house one with pond.  Hope some are still available when I decide to buy.  Houses weren't much but I would just tear them down and build my own anyway.  If that is what the lord has for me to do.  If not....then he will lead the way.  Sometimes what "I want isn't what he wants."  With this I hope we are in agreement.  Have had it in and on my mind for the last 15 yrs and now my daughter is moving to Dallas and my son is already there...I'll be closer if I can do this.

Austin. Hunting is a pain - private land, expensive leases - but I like Austin, having grown up there.

Kodiak. I wasn't there long - I rode a minesweeper from there to Washington - but it was beautiful.

Northern Arizona rocks.

I always said it would be Texas west of the hill country, but I do love Hawaii, lived and worked there in the 80's. But there is the mountains of eastern Tennessee. Hard decision. Had I been there Alaska or Montana would be interesting.

already bought it.
need to get the sitting government
types out and some decent folks in
washington so i can hold a good job
long enough to finish everything to
move and live there for whatever
time i have left on this planet.

too bad they didn't clone pres. reagan

an unsolicited tip: make your piggy bank
before you try to move off to the sticks.
if you go ahead and try to move to a remote
location, there may not be any type of job
in the area. or a good job might be so far
away as to make a commute unfeasible.
when i first got my place, one of the neighbors
gave me the best tip. if you need 6 boards, buy
10. if you need 5 pounds of 10 penny nails, get
7 or 8.     meaning it's a looong way to the
hardware store sonny.

:)  Howdy! I've lived in Texas all my life. However, there are times I wish I had a log cabin near a lake with woods all around in a cool Summer climate for a vacation home. Wishing does not make it happen though. Always, Gene

Brevard, NC. Heart of the Cherokee nation. Best of climates in upper elevations. Some snow in winter and summers aren't too hot. The Cherokee Indians were the fightingest Indians in the lower 48 and that is the area they made their home. (Politics are much too liberal though) ear

Central CA coast. Somewhere between Morro Bay and Monterey would be good for me. I live on the SoCal coast but would like to move North to get away from the big cities.

I worked in LA area a couple years ago, and I loved SoCal - great mountain drives, the PCH... just wonderful. Except for the gun-grabbin' and gazillion people on the highway, I could live there forever. They need more deer, though...

Wouldn't you like to be a little farther away from LR? ;) Just kidding! I was born in southern Ar, and you couldn't drag me back there. I loved it there as a kid, but things have taken a turn for the worse in the PB, LR area since the 60's.The Pacific NW is where I call home and Without the large number of Liberals, it would be Heaven on earth. "OH YEA!" Low humidity in the summer months here is a plus.

I love Alabama in the Fall, Winter and Spring but always said if I were rich I'd have a Summer cabin up in the mountains of Montana. I definitely don't like this Africa heat and humidity we get this time of year.
