Looking for some help on information on changing firing pin on Savage 219 30-30. have tried the Savage fourm but no luck there. Thanks Tom
The first thing to do, after removing the barrel, is to remove the buttstock, via unscrewing the stock's throughbolt, located inside the deep hole under the buttplate. if the threads are frozen, they might require an overnight app of penetrating oil, applied through the forward part of the action & allowed to flow back into the rearmost area of the tang (where the threads are). I do that via clamping the action in a padded vise with it pointing almost (but not quite) straight "up".
How to proceed would depend upon if your 219 is the earlt striker-fired, or the later internal-hammer action - but generally ensure the action's cocked, then take a good look up/forward, with a good light, from alongside the LH side of the tang area,to see what you're dealing with.
IIRC, mainspring pressure must first be relieved, so the FP can be worked on ( It's been several years since I've done one).
