Personally I prefer the 7mm-08. but that's just me. A friend and neighbor has a Handi .280. He couldn't get it to group. We went through it and found the scope base was loose. Now it's a tack driver. If I were looking for something like that, I wouldn't hesitate to get a Handi .280. It's a nice rifle in a nice caliber.

I have a 7mm08 ive glanced at the ballistics alot of both ...... they are SOOOOOO close . the 24 inch barrel is what intrigues me . One more ? are there any aftermarket barrels available for handis . other than the factory type ....i would like to put together a 24/26 fluted and ported handi ,not sure what caliber .

The 280 Handi and Ultras have 26" barrels, no aftermarket barrels are available, although stubbed barrels can be had for about $350. Mine shot fine as a 280, had it rechambered to improved.
