45 colt accessory barrel
« on: January 31, 2014, 01:43:46 PM »
I took a week of lunch hours but I did get a hold of Jeff Galloway at H&R. He said at this time there is no plan for the 45 long colt as a accessory barrel but he is keeping tract of the request for this caliber. He has had quite a few if he enough request they will offer them. I asked how many request he had and how many it takes he would not say. I hope he is not blowing smoke up my back side. He did give me permission to post this number with EXT to request a caliber you  may have to leave message   1 866 776 9292 EXT 8030
                                                                                                                                                                      Thank you Matt
PS  You  may want to keep your wood stocks

I'd buy one, preferably with sights, but I'd buy one either way.    So what's up with wood stocks?

MR Galloway hinted that they will be fazed out starting this year

If we all band together, we may get the caliber we want.

I'm calling in Monday with three suggestions if it's an answering machine.
1) 45 colt to support your guys' petition
2) 7.62x39 because I can't afford a CZ527 and a Saiga/SKS is hard to comeby  over here in my parts of Norcal for the right $$$
3)357max because although I have one reamed, I want a barrel(actually two) that's stamped 357SUPERMAG or MAX(someday mines is goin' to get "super" stamped above the MAG).

I just don't know how H&R could miss these two moneymaking calibers??? As for the max, aren't a couple of states .35 +above/non-rifle caliber seasons/primitive seasons? Some prepper forums even mention the Handi 357 reamed for its versatility. Preppers, hunters, dads with kids WANT this one made mainstream. T/C cost too much. Handi's are the way to go.

Probably getting hard to find enough scrap pallet wood to make stocks out of!
My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

I have come to the conclusion I really don't want yet another caliber to load. I am already loading 15 different calibers and can't keep up with all the family's shooting habit. Some of them are going to have to learn to load and help the old man out. I want to learn and start loading shotgun shell as well and haven't had time even for that. YES I would like to have a .445 and a .460 and a .25 something rifle oh and a .45 acp the list just goes on and on. but I can't find the time to shoot the ones i already have. Guess i could just keep collecting and save em till i retire and have the time to go shooting? I'm thinking I am going to follow Pete's example and try to limit myself to getting better with the ones i have, getting better scopes on the ones that need it, and working up favorite loads for each rifle in cast and jacketed. Might even thin the herd a little. I'm starting to think simpler might be better for me.

Yes Cuda, that's what I'm doing...improving what I've got and possibly thinning the herd.  I've got a Ruger M77 MKII in .308 that is a fantastic rifle....the problem is, I haven't shot it in more than three years.  I'm wrapped up in my Handis and have a .308 Handi.  I have a Marlin 336T 30-30.  That was my first "deer rifle" and I'll never get rid of it.  But, I have a Handi .30-30 too.  George and Dinny are dinging me to do the .30-40 bit.  I like the nostalgia part of it, but there goes your same question....do I really need to load for another caliber??  A lot of rifles I already have and load for fill that same niche.  On top of that, there's four long winter months with no shooting, so there's a third of the year gone and when you can shoot, the greenhouse, lawn, garden, and delayed chores set in, limiting time available.  I'm retired and still don't have enough time.

You're probably correct, Dinny.  It's the plague. ::)   If I weren't sick, I wouldn't even consider it.

My Krag is absolutely the best shooting Handi I own. My 30-06 is going to feel neglected for a long time. Oh well, I'll save it for that fine day when the Army wisens and sends me to Alaska.

Thanks, Dinny

There you go again Dinny.  "My Krag is absolutely the best shooting Handi I own".  Man, I thought I was an enabler....You make me look like an amateur.

To be honest, I scrapped my .30-06 quite a while ago.  I just don't care for the caliber or it's tribe members.  Yeah, I know, it is a personal preference.  I like my .308 family better....all of them, .243, 7mm-08, .308 and .356/.358.  Patty and Sourdough are gonna disagree, I know.  They both love their '06s, plus, I can't argue with the fact Patty has made some some more than remarkable shots with her .270.  I'll take my tribe any day over theirs.  I can't tell you exactly why.  Perhaps it is because I like the efficiency of the .308 family.  It's just more fun and easier.  It also works, close or long range.
