642 Airweight trigger pull to heavy, which spring kit?
« on: January 31, 2014, 07:27:59 PM »
I just picked up a S&W 642 Airweight 38 special.
I haven,t even shot it yet but can tell already the pull is heavy.
I can handle the pull Just fine but my wife cant pull the trigger !
I am going to buy a spring kit for it and am trying to decide On either the Wilson spring kit
Or The Apex kit.
Has anyone used either of these kits ? In a J frame
what do you think ?
IF you have used both ,which one do you like best and why?

Thanks
Craig

Craig:  go to Wolfe Springs in Ardmore, PA and get your springs there.  They have 3 sets available for the j frame revolvers:  factory replacement, combat (I believe) and target.  I bought all three sets and found a happy medium with the target springs, I believe (iirc), and they are probably less than you would get the same thing packaged under someone else's name.

If your wife cannot pull the trigger on that revolver then get her something she can work.  I had a friend who had one of the 642s and I thought it a piece of junk.  1 out of 5 factory loads would misfire, the trigger pull was obnoxious and you could not get any indication of accuracy capability with the thing on accounta it was a pita to fire.  He finally dumped it.

Understand that if you want your wife to use something she has to be able to use it, and use it effectively.  If you like a dao revolver then you carry it and get her what she can effectively use.

The Revolver was not for her but I dont like having a gun she cant even pull the trigger on in the same house,Ig I cant get it where she can and still maintain 100% reliability then its going on down the road.

I had intended to along with my Glock 26,we went and looked at a lot today and  she likes the Glock 26 the best.Shoots mine quite well.
I know she has to be able to use it and well which is why I asked which spring kit,I want her to be able to use my guns as well even though she might prefer something else .
Thanks anyway
Craig
